Daily Checks?

I just know that you get Fined when there is a fault found during Roadside check.
,…You are F****d if an Accident occurs due a Fault!
The Vehicle check sheet is to show you what to check, but ticking a fault and going out is no Option :exclamation:
In that case makes a vehicle check sheet no Sense when ticked everything as OK and the Officer finds a Fault. It is very Likely that he can proof the Age of Fault older then your Shift and you are gone.

You should make the next VOSA film…

I do not need a vosa Film.
In last Years i found once Break on one Trailer Wheel not working,i shaldn’t have checked, regarding Tsco Check sheet, and once i found a Bolt of a Spring on a Trailer loose.
Sadly i didn’t see the roost on a trailer Brake Cylinder which fell off 2 Days after the Trailer was in the Garage for Service, becouse i am lazy, and not going under the Vehicle.

“I do not need a vosa Film.”

I said you should make the film not that you should watch it. After reading your last post though, I could be wrong.

Were you fined for having a defective vehicle or for failing to do an adequate circle check?

W

VOSA isn’t the worry with me , if they find something wrong with the truck , it won’t be anything i can cure as a driver or without getting a mechanic to sort & if thats the case my truck doesn’t leave the yard so i do the best i can in my daily checks ,

No, my worry would always be living with the guilt of killing or maiming anyone just because i hadnt bothered to check my vehicle , i too see people getting the keys , starting the truck & out the yard before the engines warm let alone look at the lights or wheel nuts.

I followed a skip truck down to W.S.M the other day as i was following him i noticed his N/S light lenses were on the wrong way round , his indicator lens was covering his brake light & his brake light part of the lens was over his indicator bulb. daily checks …not that bloke

I agree MolePower.

I’ve got nothing against drivers using their brains and doing their job properly.

I’m just a bit weary of drivers who misinterpret what they have been told or taught. Usually to their own detriment.

As for the skip truck, isn’t it in the licence requirments to have a defective vehicle?

AlexWignall:
Oh yeah! Splendid…

What’s splendid??

I forgot the bit in the VOSA film where he filled his disc in after he had done his circle check.

“Splendid” is from the Lordsock thing. A bit like when Switchlogic says “Good times”…

For me it’s card in, kettle on, oil check (usually on the dash) sometimes water check, but I could never find how to check that on the Actros, so it was ok.

Then a walkround check with lights doing their thing (I like MAN and Scania for that, the light sequence function).

Anything I fix at the time, even if it’s add screenwash gets put in the defect book under rectified, ie, nearside rear indicator bulb blown / replaced, it shows I do the checks and if anything goes whilst I’m out and I get pulled by Vosa, they can see I’m not just a jump in and go guy.

Had a job where certain things never got fixed, trailer number plate and o/s/r lens on unit, also missing height indicator in cab…
So, I did a defect sheet, got them to sign and photocopy it, stuck a piece of paper up with trailer height on it and went on my way, not going to kill anyone with a broken numberplate or o/s/r lense so don’t see why it can’t go on the road, but if I get pulled, it’s been reported to the guy who’s name the o’licence is in and not really my problem.
Some say I could still get fined etc, but I don’t see how, it’s been reported, I can’t do the repairs - can’t get a numberplate made up and can’t replace a lense if I’ve not got a lense, and not willing to pay for it myself. And I’m certainly not going to turn down work - costing me wages - over a bloody numberplate.

At my place we clock in. So at 1700 i start my shift, get my paperwork if the vehicle is loaded then head to my truck. If im on a draw-bar for the night which still run analogue i put my gear in, write a chart out and put it in. I then go do my walk round checking all lights(replace bulbs if needed), tyres and check if the load is strapped up correctly inside. Normally takes 10-15min then jump back in the cab and start on the paperwork inc what we called the ops 13 sheet (check sheet). Then i make sure that my bag is out the way and have my bottle of water ready in my drinks holder  The whole job on that is about 20 min. Yes there is others that do it quicker but each to there own but our place now has got tough on showing daily checks recorded on your tacho.

When i use the few vehicles we have with a digi and it is more than 5 min since 1700 then i do a manual entry showing what i did prior putting my card in weather it me waiting for my load which would be POA or copying more ops 13 sheets so other work.

So i take it the word BOLLOX is allowed to be used on T/N…if i`d have known that a while ago, i could have used it more often…maybe Coffee, could enlighten us as to what swearwords are acceptable.

Getting back on post, like a lot of things we hear, i was led to believe that it was a legal requirement to keep a work record, plus a defect record, and 15 mins should be shown for the walk round check, obviously some people know more than others, but i will continue to keep to the above and avoid any misconceptions should i get a tug.

Well, for example, you could see someone is talking ■■■■■■■■, think they are an arse and then rip the ■■■■ out of them if you choose.

Indeed, 15 minutes is good practice, but good practice and legal responsibilty are different things.
