Daily Checks?

AlexWignall:
I have just checked this years VOSA Drivers Hours Guidebook as provided on TNUK (thankyou Coffee) and it doesn’t say anything about allocating 15 minutes at the start of your shift to a circle check.

Have I missed a page?

It seems to me that it is good sense to check around your truck and trailer before you set off. Even more good sense to record this work so you get paid for it.

We even have dollops at our place who leave their tractor units running for 15 minutes before they fetch their trailer each morning. “Just because the DCPC man said so…”

I’m so glad the DCPC is working out so well…

W

one of ours was asked what mode he would have his tacho on when doing his checks, break

Awesome!

Why should England tremble…?

or you could have our driver who spent 10 mins doing his checks on one of our bays,he was then asked to move as they needed the bay,he refused as he said hed have to spend another 15 mins checking truck as vosa say the check must be continuos, you cant split it,he was serious as well

As long as the tyres are pumped up and theres no oil on the floor its good to go.

Dont forget that it is also a drivers responsibility to show a 15 min other work tacho sign, to show you have carried out your daily checks.

I’m not sure about?

Don’t be sure about it, as with most things truckyboy claims are legal it’s ■■■■■■■■.

Snudger:
If you put the tacho in when you arrive at or start work and the vehicle is “yours”, then you can avoid faffing about with manual entries. Similarly at the end of the day.

We do have our “own” lorrys but they like it to be done so the can work out if we’re going over a 48hour average week crap. They say mark on the card when we start getting paid and when we finish getting paid.

I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a reply to that yet. The TN populus must be slipping. :grimacing:

i cant see what there on about
whats the difference between putting your card in at 7 a.m,marking your card as 7 a.m start, there both showing a start time of 7 a.m
we used to have to mark our card [start time] when we arrived at 3 a.m and didnt get a truck until 7 a.m[you obviously couldnt put tacho in as no truck.
the reason lots dont mark card ,put in manual entries in is so it looks like they started 3 hrs later[so fall back to get back],keeps there hours down,or they want to work 16/17 hrs
15 hrs pay that day, other 2 hrs on slack day

I would of done but I couldn’t understand it…

selby newcomer:
on the cpc course i was at, the guy showed a vosa daily check video, supposedly how it should be done, first off, the vosa guy got straight in and revved the nuts of the engine without checking the oil or coolant levels, then done one side of the unit and trailer very thoroughly and virtually run down the other. the video lasted 26 mins and he spent 23 of that on 1 side f the unit and trailer lol

Is that the same DVD that the trailer height is different from the internal indicator inside the cab? The fella even says “Don’t forget to check your trailer height is marked inside your cab” and the girl says cool… alot.

Find me the law where it says that and you can have £500 tax free from me in cash.

As for daily’s, I loaded mine this lunchtime for tomorrow, parked it up, dossed about for a couple of hours then checked everything before pulling the tacho and leaving for the day, It wont be moved unless it gets stolen overnight so when I start in the morning its tacho in, in house forms filled in, walk round and if alls well good to go, it had its ‘daily’ and more this afternoon.

i got stopped by vosa on dettling hill today, complete check of truck and all my cards for the last 28 days. now i know there have been several times that i haven’t show any time in the morning as over slept and was late, had to chuck it in and go, now i know there was nothing wrong as i always walk around in the evening to streach my legs. mr vosa told me that all my cards where in order so it makes you wonder who is right or wrong    :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I just know that you get Fined when there is a fault found during Roadside check.
,…You are F****d if an Accident occurs due a Fault!
The Vehicle check sheet is to show you what to check, but ticking a fault and going out is no Option :exclamation:
In that case makes a vehicle check sheet no Sense when ticked everything as OK and the Officer finds a Fault. It is very Likely that he can proof the Age of Fault older then your Shift and you are gone.

You should make the next VOSA film…

We just use “Tachodisc T50 defect books”
after our last visit from VOSA they was quiet happy that the Trucks was mantained properly but there was NO PAPER TRAIL!
So after that the books was bought in , no one has ever mentioned doing a 15min pre check, altho when i used to do tesco Ayg this was standard practice. Most our drivers are lucky to check there oil !
And considering that in our fleet i am the only one with the artic there is lots off ridged drivers in our place with “5TH WHEELS!” they just tick away happly .

found this if any intrest to any one … tachodisc.co.uk/tachograph-p … -guide-hgv

I would love to meet this bloody VOSA guy who said this or said that, it appears everytime he opens his mouth you can see his ■■■■■■■■.

So I do my daily checks, find the engine needs some oil in it and the washer bottle is nearly empty. This VOSA man expects you to spend 15 minutes and then drive to the fuel island, workshop etc.

I said at the beginning that the time had been discussed on here many times. It takes 5 minutes to do a check I agree, then you walk over to the coffee machine, check your delivery address and have a ■■■ as you walk round the truck again. Older vehicles may need longer checks, new vehicles maybe don’t need anything doing

If the truck is on the bay, how can you clean the reflectors, long vehicle sign, lights or number plate or check the doors are locked securely?

I’m a london bus driver.
We have to sign the VCR card(vehcile condition report) for every bus we drive.
We must also do a walk round check for every bus we drive.
VOSA have said the vcr card not filled in is the biggest problem with bus drivers.

One person does the wages using the clock cards, another person fills his time by checking tachos and working time regs etc, hense why we have to put start/finish times.
