Daft ADR question

Are there any ADR regs that legally prevent a driver carrying a 5 litre plastic tub with diluted screen wash kept behind passenger seat (for example). If you got tugged would it be even mentioned?

Normally it is said that “there is no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer” but in this case I’m prepared to make an exception. :stuck_out_tongue:

You can carry a 5 litre tub of concentrated screenwash if you’re feeling like pushing the boat out.

If you carry an entire pallet of it then that can come under ADR regs in some cases or does according to our paperwork.

Generally to come under ADR you’ve got to be carrying a lot more of most things than you might carry in your car. Thats a bit of a guide…except maybe weapons grade plutonium.

Hi CC,

ADR regulates the carriage of dangerous goods by road.

Standard grade screenwash does not normally count as a dangerous substance that falls to be regulated by ADR.

However, as TrevHCS said, screenwash can count as dangerous goods sometimes, but this depends on formulation/concentration, so the more industrial versions will probably end up at the bottom end (PGIII) of UN Class 3.

Even if you had a 5L can of the industrial version behind the passenger seat, it would be ‘in use’ and therefore exempt anyway.

As a rough guide, ADR regulates dangerous substances and articles that you carry as cargo and get delivery notes signed when you deliver it.
