DAF XF105 Front Bumpers

We have the annoying problem with rusty bumpers on our Dafs, the newest being 11 plate and they look terrible. Does anyone know if there is treatment or special paint you can paint them in to avoid the problem reccuring?

Thanks

You and everyone else mate, rub down and re paint is the cure, don`t know why they have never sorted it tbh.

repaint it with plenty of prep work first, plenty coats of paint and plenty of lacquer should sort it

the main issue is, they do not put enough paint on the bumper at the factory and gets chipped easily

I’ve always wondered if it was less of an issue in other countries that use less road salt. Does anyond know if they actually paint them in Leyland or just bolt them on?

Hi build primer might be a good idea when repainting.

Get rid of the piece of crap and don’t buy any more!!

The fleet I work with is DAF and the bumpers do paint chip for a past time but a cheap cure exists and if the weather is fine can fill a half hour,we have to amuse ourselves done several.
Pop down to Halfords who sell a white spray paint for domestic appliances, fridges, cookers etc. this particular paint is exactly the same colour as DAF white.Rub down the bumper,
mask off a bit then spray over till your happy with the finish and thereafter you can spray over regularly. If the bumper is another colour well just get a tin and paint over regularly,
it’s only a bumper. But it does pose the question ’ why is this a problem with DAF’s’ you’d think after all these years the Cloggies would have found a permanent cure.

Here is a prime example! Its coming you cant fight it, its the DAF cancer :grimacing:

or you can get it done right (no spraycan crap etc) once and for all. sand off all the rust, then spray a proper epoxy primer, then filler primer, and finish it off with either a good single stage or basecoat + clearcoat finish.

Galvanise it then paint it  works a treat

Time and money gentlemen…operators are usually not interested.

Leyland only paint chassis after they assemble them …the cabs come made and painted from westerloo in belguim ,and i think the bumpers etc come with them as a package

bumpers on the euro 6 are galvanised …i also find it odd that DAF are willing to build a vehicle knowing the bumpers will rust in a short time …It makes a vehicle look scruffy

im on my second one first one was going rusty within 12 months, had a new one fitted after a bump and thats gone the same :frowning: really does spoil the look of the motor.

Ours was going the same way so the boss bought a new bumper and had a see through plastic coating fitted. Nearly 12 months on and it seems to be holding up well.

But after all it is a daf what can you expect apart from them been cheap and crap nasty down hill kettle boiling racers… Nuff said !!

Is that the sticky back plastic stuff you see on the front edge of rear wheel arches on some cars? Quite thick and hard wearing.

Using 3M clear film is one solution, rubbing it down and spraying it with good fashioned stone chip, then prime & paint it is another. The 3M is expensive (I use it on my motorcycle) the stonechip spray is cheap and is applied the same way as car underseal

Yeah that’s the stuff

a clear vynle wrap from new will do the trick or have it wrapped in your colours only costs about 50-60 quid

Or you could employ the agency drivers we have, the bumpers never get chance to go rusty.
