Daf cf85 alternator light

im having a problem with a 06 cf85 yellow alternator light staying on , we’ve changed the alternator but the light stayed on?anyone got any ideas

The best place to start will be the engine wiring loom, as you will of read here & other places it’s not uncommon to find wiring loom faults on Dafs

Check connections at back of alternator and at starter motor.

Is the new alternator actually charging? Have you checked the output with a meter, and if so what was it?

If the wire from the warning lamp, to post marked ‘ind’ on the alternator was damaged, the lamp will remain lit, and the alternator wouldn’t work. The current to excite the alternator is supplied from a switched supply, through the lamp, and to the alternator. As the lamp is on, it suggests any fault is between the lamp and the alternator. You could try running a wire from the warning lamp directly to the ‘ind’ terminal on the alternator, and see what that does.

If you give the engine a quick rev, does the light go out afterwards? Whilst that would usually suggest a voltage regulator problem, it could also be something simple like a dodgy earth.
