Hi Guys
Anybody have experince of an 85 Daf CF jumping out of gear in top gear low split …Only when loaded heavy and having hit a bump it will jump out of gear…the truck has only covered 400k from new ,Maybe this is a common fault ■■?

When my 85 did that it was because the top of the gearbox had filled up with water, gone porous and was knackered !! The repairers were surprised it was it was still going 
they said they had seen a few !!!

yes, knackered as in needing a new gearbox !!
it got in through muppet designers building a gearbox with a honeycomb pattern on the top of the gearbox !! It stood in water all the time !! 
Ive got a Daf cf75 on a 2008 plate which also has the honeycomb design on top of the gearbox, it always has puddles of water in them!
What signs will I get if I’m getting water in my gearbox?

I’m selling the truck in May along with a 54 plate 480 super space that has only covered 600k but i will have to spend the money and make sure its 100 percent as most of my work is lastminute.com and cant afford to have sub standard equipment and also cant be selling a faulty truck !! …

You Might get away with moving the linkage one spline. When my 85 caught the same disease as Dennis’ DAF put me a new gearbox in, which jumped out of 4th, we reset it on the splines and it was no more bother.
Luckily i have an independant enginerer/mechanic as opposed to a Daf dealer “fit new bits only trained chimp” , i use the main dealer for non comlicated routine inspections etc but anything more comlicated goes to Simon …
very often i find sharing a problem usually brings out someone with a similar problem thus giving us a starting point …thanks guys …

make sure mounting bolts for gear lever to side of engine not loose and ball joints not worn and clench bolt to drop arm on gearbox splines.

Ill let you know my findings !!
We did our old 85 by moving linkage on spline on gear box 
get the box repaired or re-cond, sod getting a new one @3k , probly be the syncro that has gone. less than 2k would get you a re cond gearbox from most gearbox specialist or failing that thers no shortage of 2nd hand gearboxes in breakers yards from smashed up dafts.
DAF and Iveco gearbox man.
Can’t remember the name, but stick these co-ordinates into google maps and that’s the place.

its only done 400k or id be selling it to a “gentleman of ethnic origin” for 5k …you wouldnt know until your fully freighted pulling hard …
I wont be spending 3k on it regardless , Simon will pull it to bits

that 3k was a re-con (and labour for removal/fitting)
does it crunch in to gear aswell?
I know I’m repeating myself, but I would definitely check the linkages before committing to take the gearbox out.
Edit: Is there a spring that can go on them too?
