DAF CF space cabs - leaking sunroof

I had a CF space cab last night and everything was fine and dry inside even though it was lashing it down at tea time. Got down near Tibshelf and then suddenly I found myself drenched through when half a gallon of water deposited itself on me. I pulled of on the gate 27 ramp and investigated the cause. The sunroof was closed tight according to the button on the dash and after giving the sunroof a bit of a prod myself it seemed tight enough. The water was actually running on the outside edge of the grey plastic trim that goes all the way round it. I’m guessing that the water is collecting within the grey trim and then when you go up or down hill, or slam it fast round a corner that this “slops” the water out ?

I belled the office and they said, “don’t worry about it, all our CF’s do it so there’s no point defecting it”. :open_mouth:

Well I had an 04-plate one with Archies and never had a bit of bother and this was only a year and bit younger on a 52-plate.

Has anyone else had a drenching in one to warrant the “they all do it” bit above ?

Maybe it has an auto sensor installed for when your cooking :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Or maybe you should ask Natham for the lifeboat he was getting you :smiling_imp:

Rob…my answer would have been to tell them im going home cos im drenched…and also remind them that if i bought a new vehicle…and it leaked water…i would want it fixed…some hauliers think that just cos its a truck…¬thats ok then`…but it aint in my book…of course the other alternative would be to park up till it stopped raining…after all…buckets of water pouring in the cab…over the electrics…is in itself a hazard…good luck…and next time you take one out…dont forget the whores…i mean oars…

Just before we moved to Huddersfield from Leeds, earlier this year,we had 3 Axor’s,one of which was mine after I swapped with one of our other guys.It was a 52 plate, and the sunroof leaked like hell,as did all of our fleet throughout the company.

Anyhow,as I was sort of semi office/semi driver at the time,it was due to go for service at the local Merc dealer, and when I booked it in,I asked them to look at the sunroof,as I was sick of showering at least twice a day.Once at home, and once while driving. They told me it was a common fault, and the cause was the sealing ring which perishes, even on a truck that’s fairly young.

Result?

One new sealing ring, and no more wet hair.

Daft thing was, upon moving to Huddersfield,2 of the Axor’s went to our HQ in Northampton, and the other went to our Ossett yard. :unamused:

Ken.

Quinny where in huddersfield do you live?
cheers

I don’t.I live here.

It’s the new DAF Rob,they come with a shower built in and it’s Automatic.

With my previous firm i had the same problem

All the trucks where 01 reg upwards cf dafs and they all had the same problem

We have a fleet of Daf space cabs from 51 plates (like mine) to 53 plates and not one of them has ever had this fault ( i know this coz our fitters would have used a couple of rolls of gaffer tape to cure the fault )

they had this problem with the new cf’s at f/liner manchester and what was suggested that close the sunroof then give it any minute then press the button to close again that sometimes cures the problem … but some had to back and it repalaced.
