Daf cf auto

Starting new job monday in a daf cf automatic rigid. Never driven an auto in my life. Any info or tips would be appreciated. Heard its easy but so is everything when you know how.

just put it in D and off you go …When approaching junctions try to judge traffic so you don’t have to come to a halt ,as that is when you are at a greater risk of an accident ,basically to go to pull out ,the box takes that 2 or 3 sec to pick a gear ,then a car is upon you ,Don’t sit too long in Drive at a red light put it in Neutral ,even in an Auto you can abuse the clutch…If driving a CF 65 AS - LITEthen if you switch off with it in gear it automatically drops in to neutral…If driving a CF 75 AS-TRONIS MID or a CF 85 AS-TRONIC ,then if switched of in gear you will stil get the bing bing warning and flashing N on the dash, but it will not drop in to Neutral,so if the air drops below 7.5 bar you will need someone to either come out and fill the air tanks ,or remove a 1/2 shaft…Feel free to PM if you want to know more

Easiest truck to drive. Basically drives itself. The gearbox is a heap of ■■■■ keep it manual on hills and s/c.

if it comes with fleet software manual selection isn’t available …Though manual is a god send when going up a hill and you want to hold a gear …If it does have manual just push the button on the end of the right hand stalk ,and the dash will change from say 12A to 12M,then just move the stalk up and down to change gears …Unless you have an early AS-TRONIC with the gear change lever on the floor…then you push it left /right to to between and auto .ad forward /back to go up and down the box…those are rare ,well in DAF dealerships anyway

I’ve been driving 85.460’s recently, 13 & 63 plates, it only allows manual in low gears, i think above gear 6 it won’t come out of automatic, is there any way of overriding this so manual can be selected in gears 11 and 12 ?

Just remember to push the selector dial round to the manoeuver mode when appropriate, will lock in crawler F or R and keep things controllable.

You probably won’t like the thing, getting going intially is a case of press a bit then a bit more then all of a sudden the bloody clutch drops in and off you go in a leap, especially useful trying to feather a reverse up to a loading dock… :unamused:

As said above, there is a delay whilst the useless pile of junk decides what gear it wants to be in at junctions, so you will develop a habit of pressing the throttle about 2 seconds before you want the thing to go.
Be wary on slight incline junctions, the lorry will roll back long before the poxy box has had time to have a meeting including coffee and biscuits and a postal vote on which gear it should be in.

The AS chronic can usually be driven in manual, but its not responsive like a Scania to manual input.

Enjoy… :smiling_imp:

It’s not crawler it’s just limited engine revs.

If you are incapable of pulling away correctly on an incline then use the hill start switch. That’s what it’s there for…

They are easy to drive really.

And some fell on stony ground, where no one read the bloody post but tried to be clever dicky/sarcastic and failed.

We had a CF 65.250 on hire. By far the most hateful vehicle I have ever driven. Gutless, 6 speed box with manual override. But it took so long to change down, you’d lost all your momentum anyway.

Changed up and down (mainly down) at will, on roundabouts and junctions, even when making steady progress. All of us that drove it said it was embarrassing as it made us look like we didn’t know how to drive.

They are a crap drive to be honest! Even a Scania is better than a DAF! Just saying!
