Daf 510hp

Has any one any advice on these trucks daf 105’510 super space 6x2 small axle ,mpg ,ect.year 2007.
Thanks

a firm i worked for had one, but it was a double drive. it was on waste work on and off the tip, short distances. and it was incredibly heavy on fuel.
i suggested to the boss that we put it on some distance work and see how it goes, he reluctantly did this for about a month. he then sold it as he’d already done a deal with someone. he soon come to regret it, it turned out to be doing around 9mpg. this was about on par with the 460s, but much better than the 410s.
so it really depends on what work you’re putting it on.
very nice and comfy to drive, powerful, stylish, and present a good image.

Thanks phil ,any other probs, head etc ,it will be distance work

i think they’re a cracking lorry. they did have some problems with the head gasket some time ago, but it wasn’t ever something that caused major problems. we just noticed they would start losing a bit a water, but we just sorted them when we had time.
any problems we had were usually down to the mechanic signing them off as serviced, then going down the pub. but that’s the same with any lorry.
i did find that the air dryer filter should be changed once a year, they build up with gunk on dafs for some reason. so i always carried a spare.

I used to drive one loved it,like a big sofa,it was 03 and head the same head problem but was fixed with better gasket, drove that up untill about a year ago so had no dealings with then again ,had scania since then, is the brake pedal still on the floor used to cause some problems dirt etc ,so low 9s what about the lift axle the small silly looking one any probs there.

the exhaust brake gets crap in it with every lorry, and also when drivers don’t use them for long periods theyget clogged up. WD40 will cure it. in fact i reckon that stuff could cure the common cold.
never a problem with the lift axle, however, what i always wanted to do is get it sorted out so you could over ride it to stop it dragging when reversing. you can over ride them, but it comes back down after a few seconds which is prety useless.
we had factory fitted 1200 litre twin tanks which were handy.

I’ve heard of a fuel hunting problem with them ,loss of power no revs stalling at lights etc?

probably not had a fuel filter for some time, cracked fuel pipe, or dodgy connection. usually something and nothing.

Thanks for that

The FTP model ie 17.5" rims, we used to run loads off them when I worked for Adams, apart from the head problem which strangely only started to happen after the Y2 service (2yr old, once a year service) when the coolant got changed for cheap ■■■■ Multipart Antifreeze rather than DAF spec coolant!
At MOT time, the middle axle brakes need stripping, cleaning up and readjusting, or you’ll fail the Test!!
Saying that I saw a Turners FTP and I reckon they might have changed the design now, been off the spanners a few years!! The small axle everyone else used was a better option 19.5" rims because they had disc brakes!!
Hope this helps

weve found that the only thing making 510 bhp on ours is the badges on the doors they cant live with a 500 volvo, there not much quicker than the 460 dafs we run so i wouldnt go paying much of a price hike over a 460 daf as there very little difference in fuel of power.

Before I finished I was using a 460 on Euro work, same run all the time, big tanks but no tag, all up at about 33 -35t, the computer showed pretty much a constant 10.1 - 10.3. Very comfy and quiet truck. Electric weren’t the best though, lots of probs.
