Daf 3300/3600 spacecab

The film of the Turbo Star is called " On Your Bike". This is on Ebay at the moment with the Spaghetti no junction, which has been said is not really a great story line.

I don’t think Ferdy “Toprun” is selling anymore DVD’s as they are not listed on his site.

Rob, I hope Graham paints the Daf in a better colour, is he still using it for a Telecommunications company?

That reg on the 3600 space cab, LAT, where did that originate?

cropped this picture from an advert

Thats beautiful.

i would swap my ssc for that graham andrews motor!..

that there is the best daf ever built and id gladley drive that today :sunglasses:

One of the best trucks ever…up there with the F12/16`s.

I love these old Dafs, when i first past my class1 i broke my teeth in on an A reg 3300 6X2. The engine was clapped out & it wouldn’t hold it’s air. She used as much water & oil as she did diesel but just kept on running once wound up it would leave the bosses son in his G plate F10, oh the days before limiters. I’ve driven 2500, 2800 as well as a 3200 H plate for TDG on the agency 1 night out of Warrington. This probably explains why i’m on my third Daf, they might not be the fastest truck up the hills but the just keep soldiering on.

Hi All,

Never had a Space cab, but always thought they looked a brilliant motor, mate of mine had one that looked great, did have a 2800 & 3300 (see photos) that both went like stink, once you had got used to the slap across ZF, the air leaks were standard fit from the factory as I remember.

Little story - once while shipping out of Hull to Zeebrugge, I was put at the front of the deck after backing on, so that I was 1st off. When we docked in Zeebe, I started the engine before the doors opened, just to build the air up, the bosson told me to turn it off until the doors opened, I tried to explain, but as usaul he wouldn’t listen, so I duly turned off, having then put is jobs worth hat on, wouldn’t let me start up until everything was ready - at this point he told me to go, I then started up and waited for 5 mins to build the air up and took great glee watching him jump up and down and go red, has nobody else could get off cause I was in the way !!!

I know this is a 2800 which Gibbs had plenty of but they did have one 3300. My dad had a 2800 for six years with them before the upgrade to the 95. I would love to have a drive of one or even just a small run to see what they were really like. I have however got a 3 hour video which was taken in a Gibbs DAF 2800 over a week and shows everything about it, gear changes, climbing hills, interior, exterior, a convoy of Gibbs 2800’s on the Sunday morning heading south and general trucking in the 80’s.

Any chance you might know the whereabouts of my old sed ack Marky ?
The ltd edition one Ive posted on here before! K47 RCU. It was parked up for a few months when I left Gallachers 6yrs ago then it was bought by an owner driver pulling for Elddis & repainted black with red bumpers & bits. I think he sold it on to someone in the Richmond Yorks area who was going to do it up for shows etc. Would love to know whether it was still on the road. I do a few Vintage shows myself with an old Transit camper but ive never seen it around.
Sorry about getting back to sed ack`s chaps
Gallachers also had quite a few of the big Dafs which always looked well in their colours sadly dont have any photos.

Not a spacecab but thought this may be of interest.

You were lucky you could stop the engine with no air as the exhaust brake / stop button wouldn’t work and you couldnt normally get a gear to stall them till the air was up :stuck_out_tongue:

AT, AG, BT and RH were all Hull / Beverley registrations. The local DAF dealer was Thompsons who put a lot of DAF Trucks into the local area of East Yorkshire.

We had A131 PAT. A 759 NAG. B693 WRH, B694 WRH, C572 CRH and D21 NAG among others.

(How sad is that?) :stuck_out_tongue:

I did my 1st trip to Italy in a 2800, it was the DKSE economy model with a 9sp Fuller, not the quickest thing on the road but a decent motor all the same & the bunk was very comfy, I ‘confiscated’ the bottom mattress to go over the fabric covered steel girder in the Merc that replaced the Daf :sunglasses:
