DAB radio (BFBS)

I have just bought a DAB radio for the truck and must say i absolutely love it ! I am able to hook it up to the trucks stereo using the IPOD jack . The sound quality is brilliant . However i did buy a external antenna for it which has made a incredible differance. !
I would also like to endorse a particular radio show .BFBS ( the forces station) it is brilliant in my opinion , especially the Lynne Duffas show on from 1300-1600 mon to friday . ( i hope i dont get in trouble for mentoning this !) it is the best 3 hours of radio !!

the frequency,s are posted in the useful links forum
so you can see where they are broadcasting on which
frequency and which station BFBS1 or BFBS2:

bfbs was great when in germany although when i couldn’t seem to get it i had to listen to the american forces radio and that was awful.

never listen to radio 1 or 2 have a pure highway which gives me dab radio through the cab radio and it stays on planet rock all day.

BFBS is the dogs

Jimboy124, What DAB are you using. I’m thinking of one for my car. My musical tastes tend towards rock and blues so not too much on the car radio.

Its a PURE highway , got it of flea bay. But spend a bit extra on a external antenna the one it comes with for the windscreen is rubbish !

When I was in the Army many years ago ( Centurion was a rank, not a tank then) in Germany, BFBS was pretty awful and was known as “Bumbling Fumbling Broadcasting Service”.

prepare to start taking the mickey and laugh at my question but here goes
does anybody know the range of a DAB radio? could i for example put one in the truck and listen to bbc radio 2 whilst in europe

You wouldn’t be able to pick up uk dab in europe, maybe a satellite radio set up is what you need (don’t know if it’s offered in Europe, big in the states though). This is a good value all in one head unit for the car or if you own the truck: amazon.co.uk/JVC-KD-DB101-KD … 310&sr=8-1 you can plug your ipod in to the front via the aux socket too, there’s a link to the pure highway dab receiver on that page too, bought £65. An external aerial is also a must with dab radio.

i was wanting a pure highway but the reviews were very mixed but il see if they have come down in price yet.

I listen to bfbs regulary through my sky digital at home, great station!

BFBS was reasonable. I just remember the garbage they put on the Voice of America though too. :open_mouth:

Never heard of Voice of America until this week when I was waiting to clear in Tirana customs, will agree it was garbage, also come across the World Service on FM.

It hasn’t changed, it is still shi… err I mean pretty awful.

BFBS Radio 2 has some good UK output: The Today Programme, World at One, PM and Five Live in the evening and through the night.

However, coverage is not as widespread as BFBS 1 with transmissions being pretty localised:

Bielefeld: 101.6FM

Celle: 95.4FM

Fallingbostel: 95.2FM

Hameln: 106.8FM

Hohne: 104.7FM

Münster: 102.2FM

Rheindahlen: 104.3FM

Sennelager/Paderborn: 105FM

Parts of Gütersloh and Herford are currently covered by the Bielefeld transmitter on 101.6FM.
A new BFBS Radio 2 Gütersloh transmitter is due to go live in mid-2010.

Cheers for that, welshboy  .
You’re right, I’ve got no kids, but if I had and they were still watching CBeebies, frankly I would be rather worried   .

So it all falls into place now…
It must have been our dear beloved Jimboy as he mentioned the train and having been to Krefeld.
As his superior officer ( ) was swanning around in Berlin and Poland last week, he must have drawn the short straw and was on the Krefeld run.

I used to listen to Richard Nankivel on BFBS when I was in the army, he was barking mad then, he now does the 10pm - 1am slot on BBC radio ■■■■■■■■ he’s still stark raving bonkers!!!
