You know, and I know that France, Belgium and now ( maybe ) Germany are going to enforce the no weekly rest can be taken in the vehicle. Someone above mentioned the many east european drivers or low paid drivers being parked in their countries, so pray tell me how this will happen, the haulier pays the driver for a hotel ( it only needs 1 night ) ( or 24 hours ) as you can still have a reduced rest in the truck ( but a night in a hotel + 24 in the cab = a full weekly rest and it only costs around £20 ) BUT the trucks will still be parked in the services…so how does that solve the problem of the parking.■■
I don’t think they’re worried about the trucks being parked up, it what they call social dumping, that is workers being based in another Country by their employer earning a fraction of the local pay and flouting the Countries minimum wage regulations.

Zey vil simply not allow zis.Taking only part of a voll weekly rest period in a hotel and part in the vehicle does not make a full weekly rest taken avay from ze vehicle and zerefore zey obviously haf vays of stopping zis.

Absolutely. The EU is supposedly so good for the workers but it obviously isn’t good enough to impose an EU wide minimum wage based on the highest paying denominator.
Carryfast, the regulations state you cannot take a weekly rest in your cab, so as a weekly rest is 45 hours, by taking part of that in a hotel, you are not breaking the regulations, there are no new rules to state you cannot take a reduced rest in the cab, so therefore you can…are you with me so far … and if a driver chooses to go camping for the weekend all the better eh !

If they are out to make a point of it then it would logically mean that the definition of ‘weekly rest’ covers the whole period not just part of it.IE it’s either a reduced weekly rest of which all or any of it can be taken using the cab facilities.Or it’s a full weekly rest period in which case none of it can be taken using the cab facilities.
