D4MEDICAL

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE DVLA WOULD CONTACT MY GP IF I APPLIED FOR A PROVISIONAL ? I WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS PASSING MY MEDICAL (IN THEORY) - NO DRUGS / ALCOHOL / DIABETES ETE BUT I HAVE SOME STUFF ON MY MEDICAL RECORDS THAT I WOULDN’T WONT PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF MY GP TO SEE NUFFING RELATING TO ROAD SAFETY…MY QUESTION BASICALLY IS… IF MY DOCTOR SAYS YES YOUR FIT TO DRIVE WOULD DVLA STILL CONTACT THEM ? AND LOOK AT MY RECORDS?.. ANY REPLY IS APPRECIATED THANKS

I THINK YOUR CAPSLOCK BUTTON IS STUCK

The DVLA only contact your GP if they think there is an issue

They can also send you to do their own specialist (FREE) tests if they think there might be an issue

i was waiting for someone to comment on the caps  sorry

thank you for the reply its appreciated… I’m glad to hear that. its nuffing serious just personal stuff. but if they won’t check my medical records then i guess its fine. say for instance they need to investigate an issue that might come up in the medical will my gp only release information concerning fitness to drive ? thanks again for the reply!

I sent my application in for the provisional Cat C last year, Passed the medical with no issues, noted a medical condition. They took 3 or 4 weeks to get back saying they’ll need to look at my case in detail with one of their own doctors and could take up to 3 months

Couple weeks later I got my licence through. They never contacted my GP or my consultant.

(Medical condition was to do with my back)

Edit: I used these people for my medical and found the price much fairer than the £120 my GP wanted to charge doctorsonwheels.co.uk

thank you for your reply… i have my medical on the 3rd of dec. little nervous dunno why lol could you tell me what is involved in the medical please? and have you had your practical test yet ?

read this = gov.uk/government/uploads/s … 231115.pdf

Not sure what’s supposed to be involved, but in my case it was very quick check such as tap chest, tap back, check height vs weight, quick eyesight check and he went away with the pee sample to I assume dip test it. Spent more time filling out all the boxes on the form without actually asking any questions relating to them. All very simple.

Some can do the eyesight check and some can’t it seems, so I had it done at the opticians who filled out the appropriate bit of the form first. Cost a little more but guaranteed DVLA wouldn’t question it.

thanks for the reply guys… seems im worrying over nuffing sounds pretty straight forward… fingers crossed ill pass with no issues. just wanna get behind the wheel now lol

My medical lasted maybe 15 minutes? probably closer to 10. It was done in a van/minibus type thing at a truck stop.
Ran through the questions quickly. I had already filled out my GP details and medical condition stuff. The doctor asked my height, weight, asked me to read an eye chart and took my blood pressure. That was about it from memory.

I passed my practical test first time with Peter Smythe training around April time this year.

If I do get of my arse and try for Class 2 I guess I’d probably have a bit of a wait, due to my disability, but I do know of at least two drivers with the same condition who were driving artics so hopefully be ok barring any other issues at a medical.

I Can’t see that if the OP doesn’t have an on going condition or disability and passes the medical ok that they’d need to see your medical records you’d just show as fit to go I’d think? Either way good luck!

The D4 medical which can be completed by your own GP (or any doctor) highlights any potential driving related problems ie visual issues, neurological problems - strokes or MS etc, cardiac problems - previous heart attacks and so on. The D4 is mainly a self declaration as most D4s are completed by GPs whose patients are not registered to that practice and so don’t have access to past medical problems. Any GP can give advice on your past medical problems and they can advise if it is relevant to driving, if its not relevant then DVLA don’t need to know. Remember if you don’t disclose medical problems its not the doctor to blame its you. You will be held accountable and it will affect your license, insurance and livelyhood.
I saw a doctor in Falkirk, Stirlingshire. He is very knowledgeable and fair. He only costs £60.
The practice he works from is www.westburnmedicalpractice.scot.nhs.uk
Hope that’s helpful.
