Got the 11 months extension like a lot of us did
Got my d4 in the post yesterday question is
Do I send the D2 form in as well…I am 56 the way I read it is I only fill D2 in if I am updating my photo ?

And update your photo when you do it even if you don’t need to as it’s free to do if you do it at the same time as the medical.

You need to send in both if its your 5 yearly medical.

  • D4 proves you are medically fit.
  • D2 renews your licence and potentially updates details (its a slightly different D2 to those updating details and are under 45).
  • Old licence unless you tick the “need for training” box.

The forms are dire as are the leaflets, read the latter very carefully!

One question is “I want to renew my photo”. From what I read, dont tick that box even if you are updating the pic, as it actually means you are giving up your HGV. DVLA really are this stupid!

As mentioned, copy every page at least twice plus bkth sides of licence and send it all off special delivery. Keep copy of receipt of postage and the delivery proof from Royal Mail. You’ll need all the copies if licence expires and you want to drive under section 88 inc your car and HGV. Currently doing this.
