Him: No. I hate the f***ers. I’d run them all over if it wasn’t for the fact that I’d lose my licence.

Unfortunately this is the type of driver attitude that is all too common.
There’s a thing called respect and until drivers and cyclists start showing some it will get no better.

Do you really think that’s not a load of bs. :unamused:

No. Why? Because I’ve experienced too many occasions where drivers seem to think it’s acceptable to overtake me at speed, 6" off the end of my handlebars. It’s usually car drivers but not unknown for an idiot in an HGV to do it.

And yes, the cyclists in that video are idiots. Just because I’m also a regular cyclist (as well as being an HGV driver) doesn’t entitle people to assume that I’m like them.

All I asked was what have cyclists done to help themselves , it would appear nothing !

A serious question. Do cycling clubs, forums, lobby/campaign groups or whatever, campaign to get rid of the lunatic element in their midst ( which undeniably exists ) ?
Even if only for the selfish reason of " these idiots get us all a bad name ", let alone, for general safety reasons, it seems to me that they should be doing so.
Regards. John.

it doesnt .

and neither does muckaway assertion that trucky is innocent because he hasnt been arrested .

im just pointing out that radio said police were looking for blue scania
implying they had not found driver .

the bbc reports are really not clear . it could mean various things so is poor reporting

The police seem to say “lorry” in all accidents around here and not the type (maybe to stop anti truck nutters from claiming they were witnesses?) Happened near the Toby Carvery just off Hennef Way, next to the roundabout. I’ve been getting up that way a lot recently, TBH you don’t see many cyclists around there.

I have not even seen the slightest change, attitudes from motorists towards cyclists remains steady at poisonous.

Well listening to the arrogance seeping from borinmoron and roaduser66, If this is the attitude by your average cyclist then is it any wonder there is hatred for cyclists on the road?
Ive asked them both numourous times for their reasons against making cyclists more accountable by use of number plates etc but it gets by-passed by them both and they can never seem to answer yet they are both pretty vocal about making drivers accountable for THEIR actions.
Ive said many times that the main reason for animosity towards cyclists is due to their disregard for any road laws they dont like. They run red lights, ride without lights or hi viz clothing, ride on the pavement, ride the wrong way up one way streets to name but a few yet bring this up to our most vocal anti-hgv pro cycling members and all you get is told “that’s not whats killing them” or “only x amount of incidents is attribuated to this” which is pretty much the same as saying “its fine to do it”
So if this is the attitude of the cycling lobby who think it acceptable to ignore road laws that motorists have to abide by then this is why there is hatred for some motorists towards cyclists.
And while you have the cycling lobby resisting all calls for bikes to be registered and riders to be identified for any law breaking then cyclists will continue to break the law and the animosoty from motorists will continue. As ive also said countless times, everyone is entitled to use the road regardless of their mode of transport but cyclists are the only ones who seem to think they have a right to do as they please whether legal or not and everyone else needs to watch out for their safety

Do cyclists really break that many laws in comparison to other road users ? lets just ignore the muppets in the video above, I doubt you will find a regular cyclist who doesn’t 100% condemn that behaviour, if we had police on the streets they could simply be arrested and the bikes crushed. I will of pedalled nearly 5000 mile this year and I would be surprised if I have broken the law once while on the bike, and yet when I am out i will see motorists continually breaking the law, speeding, mobile phones, fog lights, illegal parking, the disrespect motorist show towards traffic law is endless. (and their registration plates mean nothing as the police are not interested in any road crime, apart from a bit of fund raising with speed cameras they do nothing).

I do find it worrying the animosity shown towards cyclists; Not that being disliked is anything new, as a driver I know we are far from loved, in fact many hate us, often treat us like something they have just stood in, but when a car driver who has been held up for a few minutes passes with horns blaring and cuts in sharply its laughable, sometimes disturbing (potentially very dangerous), but mostly laughable. But when you experience one of these punishment passes on a bike for no other reason then the ■■■■ just hates cyclists
then it goes well beyond the disturbing.

There’s no doubt that there are drivers around who don’t overtake cyclists correctly. However none of them would/should be under any illusions that the potential penalty for taking anyone out by such driving will just be ‘loss of licence’. :unamused:

Having said that cyclists often seem to selectively apply double standards, concerning clearance distances, when undertaking moving traffic.

I would guess there is a big difference in choosing how close you wish to be with another vehicle and having that decision made for you. Also there will be the spee diff to consider, passing at 5mph on the nearside will be considerably less dangerous than a car unexpectedly squeezing by at 33mph.

I’m probably not the best to comment as I have never done any filtering, I don’t do busy roads or busy places, if I’m encountering more than a couple of vehicles a mile then I’m not enjoying it.

+1,well said

why don’t we all just face facts, the truth is even if cyclists became legal and above board,[road tax insurance, etc]us drivers and cyclists will still hate each other,we will still be arguing with each other on the road, getting into rucks with each other, cyclists putting us on F/B,and other sites, its a never ending cycle[pardon the pun]and it will never stop

So you’ve almost wiped them all out then, good for you pal!!! :grimacing:

Exactly. Its like everything on the roads, someone hates someone else and life goes on. We hate cars drivers, car drivers hate us, cyclists hate us, everyone hates cyclists, etc etc.

Yep, and lets not even mention horses! Oops!! [emoji3]

It seems like every time I look on this site there’s a new thread moaning about cyclists. I think it would make sense just to have one thread instead of people starting a new one every day.

Cyclists are here to stay, you can moan about them as much as you like so I suggest you just accept it. Just like taxi drivers, van drivers, BMW drivers etc

What about the clown in the lycra suit who thinks it ok to jump the red light and then stop to give you a mouth full.Even thought they are wrong cause you should not have started driving thought the green light. But always moan about being vunrable but like to act like a ■■■■ on the road.

Say that again in English.

what hoops has the haulage industry being jumping through in respect of cyclists ? cheap signs on the back of trucks telling cyclists to keep back. I have not even seen the slightest change, attitudes from motorists towards cyclists remains steady at poisonous.

You obviously haven’t seen what the requirements for HGVs going through the capital are now and what is also being called for. Additional mirrors, even more side bars, side bars on tippers…all because lycra louts seem to think their safety is everyone elses responsibility.

Interesting video, once one gets past the blatant disregard for the highway code and total lack of respect for any other road user not to mention the warped hope that one if not both of em gets killed then I cant help but admire the reaction speed and fearless cycling shown in this vid.

I think back to what I was doing in my equivalent younger years and to be fair joy riding and the odd police chase come to mind + some other stuff far to naughty to mention on here.

So 99 times out of a 100 they will get away with these shenanigans just hopefully less skilfull cyclists wont try and copy their antics.

Wow thats some epic cycling, this should be the standard cycling test for commuting in London, if they where all this good they would be long gone before your average trucker could say WTF.

Oh and im the one at the bottom in the hi viz although that is my dog at the start of the clip who I chucked in to add a bit of spice.
