Cyclists widow forgives ( edited version)

I hugged and forgave the lorry driver who killed my husband

“As the judge said, it’s an extremely tragic case. There is no good outcome for anybody. It’s very, very sad to see my family and his life completely ruined.”

:open_mouth: A very brave and strong lady indeed

Yes very brave, it’s always better to forgive if you can otherwise you’ll be filled with hate and anger and it will eat away at you.

My condolences to her and her family & my utmost respect for what her and her family did for Mr Cox the driver involved in the accident. What they said and did could be the saving of that poor man. I hope he’ll receive some support to help him come to terms with what happened because he’ll continue to relive it if he’s left to his own devices & I hope he’s able to rebuild his own life again.

Amen to that.

I can only imagine how hard it is for all involved, but I do know a brave and courageous move when I hear one. RIP and condolences to all family and friends, and a thank you for showing a bit of humanity and understanding.

I’ve tried several times to reply to this topic but every time I write something and read it back it just sounds awful.
The driver admitted running a red light which resulted in the death of a man.
The sentence passed seemed extremely lenient to me. At the same time I wouldn’t wish to see the drivers life destroyed. (Although it seems this has happened before any court sentencing)
The widow is made of stuff that is rarely found nowadays. I personally don’t know if I could find the level of forgiveness her and her family have in order to hug the man who’s actions had change their lives forever.

Mr Dorling, 58, a senior cost consultant for the Olympics site, collided with Cox’s lorry as both jumped a red light at Bow roundabout as he cycled to work in October 2011.

jesus, how costly was that error of judgement.

This is the most thought-provoking thread I can remember seeing on this site. We need more like this.

Getting back to the OPs topic, the woman involved is a very brave and sensible woman.

I hope her actions will in some way help the lorry driver to come to terms with what happened.

I’ve split this thread into two, if you want to comment on the OP this is the place to do it.
If you want to argue about Accidents or Incidents then the place to do that is viewtopic.php?f=2&t=102710
