Cyclists in motorway clipped by truck (video)

Cyclist should of done a lifesaver glance before moving, not just stuck his hand out and moved.
Lorry driver shouldn’t be going over the road markings and undertaking.
Road engineers should have designed the junction with something a bit more than paint to prevent that sort of the manoeuvre.

YET it’s obviously the cyclists fault :unamused:

Who blamed the cyclist? All the posts ive read say truck driver stupidity

Try reading again??

Yeah ok fair enough. But in my defense MOST of the posts blame truckie without question, and Hammy and nodding donkey have a valid point even if technically it was the drivers fault.

Before moving where? Nothing wrong with the design. It’s just dangerous driving.

I’m not excusing the driving.

Before changing speed or direction you observe, that’s look in a mirror or turn your head and look. Do you ride a bicycle (or ride a motorcycle)?

I still think the road design could be better though.

+1

The cyclist didn’t actually MOVE anywhere, he was still in the nearside of HIS lane when he was struck, intending to go into the new lane that would form.
It’s like when you pass the M42 heading south on the M6, and then a 3rd lane is created from the left, nobody should be coming up your nearside, especially when there’s nowhere (legally) for them to come from

ive taken up cycling recently to counter act sitting on my arse all day,but no way would I cycle on any road its to stressful I use cycle tracks

In that case be prepared to have plenty punctures, stop in the middle of nowhere, wait until the vehicle parked on it moves, go to places you don’t want to go to.
While they have their uses the powers that be in this country, usually the councils, don’t have any idea how they should be placed. If I didn’t use roads I couldn’t get out of my street,or estate, in fact it’s about 2 miles to the nearest one & that goes somewhere I don’t usually cycle, let alone get to work. In fact over the 13 Kms I go to work there is around 1 km of cycling track & im being generous there.

No idea about them, I just carry two spare tubes and have a normal repair kit at home. I also avoid the poor tracks where possible.

i like the way his mates take there time to gently park their bikes before seeing to there at that point they don’t know how injured there pal is lol

First of all I’m not excusing the bell-end’s driving.

Watch a bit closer. He did actually move. At first he is in lane 1 of a 2-lane stretch, positioned to the right of it. The third lane starts and he distinctly moves over the painted line into it before being struck. Not an unreasonable thing to do, but being “in the right” doesn’t save ending up in hospital.

If you view the longer version the cyclist seems aware enough to do a shoulder check when moving left, but doesn’t do it when moving right. The first time at the start of the long clip he gets away with it okay as he has a crash barrier to his right so nothing is going to come tooling up the inside.

Nearside of “his” lane.

Still there at the start of the solid white line.

He’s probably dead on the line at this point.

Yep his moved over the line here before the truck beeps and goes hurtling past.

It could be better. A big set of these Musoir poles may have influenced which way the driver was going to go round the cyclists and could of covered the start of the new lane.

Very lucky for the cyclist in that it was just a broken leg. Unlucky that the medical bill isn’t cheap for a pin and a set of screws in the broken leg.

WHAT?? You mean he checks over his left shoulder where you should reasonably expect a vehicle to be - overtaking on a live lane - but doesn’t check where you’d not expect any vehicle to be - undertaking on solid white chevrons / hard shoulder / new lane being formed■■?

Shock ■■■■■■■ horror?

Ok, I MAY have checked there, but only because I know how many complete ■■■■■■■ ■■■■■ are on the road, but I’d expect it to be clear when I did check, not a ■■■■■■■ artic tearing up the tarmac in the wrong lane to hit my vehicle and drive away leaving me for dead :open_mouth:

Well aye… Bikes are expensive. Don’t want to damage it needlessly. :stuck_out_tongue:
