cyclist v hgv

Thanks for the update MrFlibble

as in my original post I just cannot see why a cyclist would put themselves in such danger! I also cycle put to be honest i don,t venture onto the main roads as i live in a country village I stick to the lanes, but if I hear/see a truck or tractor ect I will always either pull out of the way or just simply stop and let them pass,
however it seems that alot of cycling clubs use our local lanes mainly on a weekend, and I cannot believe the way that these experienced cyclists ride, I,m talking single track country lanes with sharp bends that you cannot see if anything is coming, heavily agricultural used land so plenty tractors combines ect moving about, these cyclists will be going hell bent, 3 or 4 side by side… sometimes in groups of a dozen or more, I,m afarid its only a matter of time before some get wiped out, but of course it won,t be the cyclists fault as if anyelse fails they just go on about the saving the enviroment stance.

Agree with your orginal post. Cycling clubs are probably the worst offenders. Riding anything over two side-by-side is against the law or was.

As many have said it’s all about understanding other road users. You’ll find me on the road in an artic, in a car, on a bike and on foot. I don’t claim to be particularly good at any of them (although with 16,22,36 and 39 years experience at each I’ve so far only ever had minor scrapes, all in cars) but do claim to have a broad understanding of all road users. Anyone who doesn’t ride a bike (powered or pedal) is as clueless in this discussion as anyone who’s never driven a lorry.
I’ll gladly cycle only on cycle paths when they go where I want, are suitable for 20-30mph two way traffic, swept all year and gritted in winter. I will also gladly drive HGVs only on roads designed for them when the motorway network reaches every supplier/RDC/Supermarket.
Until then I’ll have to resort to using skill, intelligence and experience to share the road with other users bigger/smaller than me on shared use cart tracks.

HC RULE 66 = NOT LAW

You should

never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on busy or narrow roads and when riding round bends
