Heart goes out to family but no sympathy for cyclist as he was on M3 heading south 10 40pm at night just after road works

All these âwarm, generousâ tributes get posted after someone dies doing something foolish. Someone died hitting a tree in a 20 zone in Oxford last week (blatantly racing) and all the facebook chavs have posted tributes calling the victim a âlegend.â
As stated a sad stafe of events someone has died but it was caused by sheer stupidity. Or alcohol.
The cyclist mindset in action.Safer to use motorways and safer to use lane 1 than the hard shoulder.

Iâm guessing he was killed just after 50mph ave finishes as thatâs 1 mile before services

Can only wonder about the mental state of many of the cycling road user group. It wouldnât surprise me if itâs all part of the green anti motor vehicle reclaim the streets crusade. In which they want free access to motorways,50 mph limit, and lane 1 reserved for cyclists.
Typical moron cyclist no sympathy here for him/her either
10.40pm on a warm sunny day and he was riding on a motorway, wild guess ,alcohol had been taken.

I agree. Even the most die-hard of the Lycra-loonies know better than to ride on a motorway.

Especially the M3 , I did a Sunday pick up in London just after Christmas and felt more comfortable driving on there in rush hour than late on Sunday night

No its not typical, most cyclist cause no problems. I do a lot of cycling and I donât have problems with other road users and I doubt they have any problem with me. And as a driver I have seldom had problems with cyclist, most people are fine, its the odd idiot that spoils it for everyone.
I feel very sorry for who ever hit the cyclist, I could imagine killing someone could take a terrible toll on the driver even if the driver was entirely blameless. Beyond my comprehension taking a bicycle onto a dual carriageway let alone a motorway.

Should have seen the amount of flowers at the canal bridge some idiot in a suburu went off. Iâve taken that selfsame corner rather quickly many a time, in trucks too, and never had a problem. I think he let off the go pedal with 4 wheel drive on, lifting off and clipping the top of the railing (dropping 20ft into the drink).
But no âWhat a shame this idiot who canât corner in a sportscar died doing what he loved, making too much noise late and night and terrorising any driver impertinent to impede his progressâ. â â â â â â â â â â â â hound if you ask me.
I wouldnât describe a cyclist on a motorway in the dark as âLoving Lifeâ - it seems rather suicidal to me.
âCyclist killed on M3 !â So what. Shouldnât have been there.
WTF was this muppet doing on the motorway in the first place â â ?
Not too sure I agree with the âdonât care shouldnât have been thereâ vibes given off by some in the thread.
Whatâs to say it wasnât a genuine mistake - Even if he was there intentionally, do they really deserve to die?
What a poor attitude towards another human.
Until any inquest none of us will fully know why they were there.
I agree that they shouldnât have been there and itâs not something Iâd contemplate doing myself but some of the reactions here are sickening.

Saying that no sympathy means the same thing as deserved to die is a big leap and assumption.Having said that the implications of cycling on a motorway are no different to those of mistakenly or intentionally driving at 70 mph on a designated cycleway. While the implications of cycling on a motorway obviously include the potential for mass casualties of innocent road users. On that note I think the latter example in this case has received no less sympathy, from legitimate motorway users, than the former would from the legitimate users of cycleways. While the cycling road user group might get more credibility if it dumps the victim culture and goes by the same rules of the road as every one else.

It is strange the complete loss of perspective when it comes to âother road usersâ and minor rule breaking. Dying for a traffic infringement seems a little excessive, was the cyclist committing a greater crime than motorists who Text, Facebook, Speed, Tailgate, Overload ? should we be happy if they die too?
I think I would like to know a whole load more about what happened before I cast judgement, and I still would like to know how the driver crashed into him, if for instance, the cyclist was on the hard shoulder, why was there a collision?

What a crazy comparison; Driving at 70mph on a cycle-path would be considerably more reckless than a cyclist peddling along the hard shoulder of a motorway - and in both examples the most likely outcome is for cyclist to die.
wish we could stop this nonsense of hating other road users - I feel I have spent my entire life being hated on the road; I realised many years ago driving a truck does not get you loved, now retired and a cyclist I now learn they too are despised by everyone, and on retiring I kept my works van as my personal transport, and white-van-man seems to be the most hated of them all -

I agree. A man is dead. He may have been drinking, he almost certainly had mental health issues but even people who drink or have mental health issues deserve a little more respect than the âserves him rightâ attitude being shown in some of these posts.
In my opinion anyway.
