hexhome will be along shortly to tell us all off! " Iâm a truck driving troll, please help find the drivers of a car who ran my friends son over or my sons a cyclist but he wasnât riding like a Richard head honestly! "
cyclists shouldnât be on the road, next to KILLER JUGGERNAUTS!
ENDEX!
As I was saying bad attitudes are one of the main problems but it seems not only on the road but on this forum as well.Although I did not realise they let children comment as well as adults.

yawn
Normally one to leap to the cyclist cause, I am a bit puzzled by this post. Whilst a noble sentiment it does not really address any problem other than a vague mention of a poor statistic. Most cyclists state that they feel safer around HGVs than any other vehicle. The fact is, that whilst a collision between an HGV and a bicycle is usually very bad news for the cyclist, such incidents are rare. I do not believe there is any value in âbicycle detectorsâ, as they are completely useless.
There is always room for improvement, and regulars will know that I am in favour of Cycle Awareness being available as a DCPC module - cycletraining.co.uk/library/ ⊠000128.pdf . I might be out of step with some of my valued professional driving colleagues in believing that we have a duty to avoid killing cyclists who ignorantly put themselves in harms way. I am most certainly not avoiding the fact that cyclists, particularly in cities, put themselves in ludicrously hazardous situations. I campaign for they to be trained as well.
Cycling is much safer than most people believe. I dropped a truck off at Raynes Park yesterday and then cycled to Kings Cross during the rush hour along main arteries. I undertake many such trips and rarely have an incident of any note. But then I never filter up the inside of a large vehicle at a junction!
That change has to come from both sides Albion, I see little effort being made by the most vulnerable side. I think if youâre under 16 and caught without lights or brighter clothing the responsible adult/parent should pick up the tab.
Perhaps cycle manufacturers should have to integrate lights into bikes frames and build solar panels and automatic switching on when light levels are lower, like some cars can. Modern technology and mass manufacture should mean it wouldnât add much to the cost of a bike.

Is that the sum total of your opinion.Any chance of a contribution of your opinion or will you just revert to childish comments and funny faces?

I totally agree with you but it seems from what I read on here most are of the opinion it is always the cyclists at fault and that is not the case.
There are good and bad on both sides but a lot of the problem comes down to peoples attitude which include being biased and always blaming the other party.
As a truck driver and a cyclist I certainly do not feel safe on 2 wheels when a truck gives me no room what so ever because he canât be bothered to slow down for oncoming traffic.

now that!! is common sense

True, thatâs not a new thing though. In my teens my bike was a means of getting from a to b. many times Iâd be riding along Via Gellia near Cromford and crap myself when one o the quarry wagons passed by. Looking back I must have put the skids on some of those drivers too as itâs not the widest road in places, at 16 I never gave it much thought and probably would have benefitted from being enlightened a bit to the dangers.

Yes you are correct that is common sense but unfortunately everybody does not have it.A lot of cyclists do not have it and a lot of truck drivers do not have it.
The one thing most truck drivers have over most cyclists is that they have been trained and hopefully realise the vulnerability of cyclists and they should act accordingly.
I would love to see 100 truck drivers having to cycle round London for a week and have to be places at a certain time.I just wonder how long their patience would last sitting behind lines of vehicles.I guarantee before long some would be diving up the inside of LGVâs.

cyclists are equal to a car, motorbike, van, truck and taxi! but if they drove and rode straight in an orderly queue!
then it would be fine!
I always leave 6â when I overtake ( as thatâs the average
) BUT if theyâre taller they get squashed, simple as!
I donât like cyclists, Albion! My choice, my opinion USE THE â â â â â â â CYCLE PATHS AND GET SOME INSURANCE! Itâs not hard!

Heated clean mirrors showing good visibility and alert drivers and understanding cyclist should do The job.
Itâs not like there are many cycle paths are they.
That advert used to be pretty good.
Think bike.
Thanks for your comments.
come on.
A 100 lorry drivers cycling round London for a week.
Were trying to prevent casualties not cause them.

Joking aside, the training and experience of lorry drivers would ensure that they were very safe cycling. It could even save many drivers lives! Cycling is not only an excellent way to stay fit and healthy, but also is beneficial to mental health and attitude.

You are joking nowâŠthe way some of them drive trucks they would not last five minutes on a bike.Standards are pretty poor all round and that includes cyclists cars trucks and buses.
My mate would struggle riding a bike, for a start heâd need âSuper- Singlesâ on ItâŠ

Natural selection then, should get pay rates up

ââŠYes cyclists can be to blame but so can the truck driverâŠâ
With rights come responsibilities
Lorry drivers tend to know whatâs what
However, bad/illegal cyclists should also be punched through their pockets to otherwise relieve lorry drivers of always, it seems, of having to accept the quality of working lives being lowered to accommodate cyclists doing as they â â â â well please.
This not least involves making quadrillions of mirror checks and having watery bowel movements whenever dangerous road users on their âblame-freeâ pedal machines are likely.
Thus, I propose to all Plod, Hobby-Bobbies; HATOâs; Traffic Wardens; Vigilantes; âWorld Savingâ (but deaf) UK Politicians; Drunks with Bottles; Mad ex-wives; Smokers of Naughty Things and Bad Men in Pyjamas:
âPlease Punish Guilty Road Abusers in Britain - even if they ride a bikeâ
For reasons unknown, I continue to ride a bike despite these bell-pieces and definitely not because of them
Happy
Plod do sort them out (do a search on here) but the people moan when they do stop people on UK roads.
