Hey guys. Probably been asked before but Ive been trying to revamp my cv with not much success. I know some employer might be a bit wary that Im a dental nurse and might think, she’s girly, why does she want a job as an LGV driver? Should I just state that I have my class 2 licence? Will this be enough or should I explain why the career change? When I write I usually end up with an essay but as a cv this would get flung in the the bin. Really stuck.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Kk
Whatever you do , don’t lie on a cv , it will catch you out one day. You need to sell yourself, and also keep it simple and factual, explain why you decided driving was for you and the fact that you paid for all your own training. sell your positive points, I,e time keeping etc.
When you do get an interview do your research thoroughly on the company in question.
Hope this helps

Remember , keep it simple and factual but don’t forget you have to sell yourself !
Hi KK dont worry about being girly many guys have come from office jobs into driving , when listing jobs and qualifications just state facts and in the part where there is a little something about yourself just a short paragraph on why you took the path of finding your hgv licence ie , a dream job or you have always been interested in lorries etc etc
have a word with sam his cv was very smart he may be able to help with layout for you if you dont live very far from him

Thanks for your replies. I am far from girly, just thought an employer might think that being a dental nurse lol. Will try and work something out by the end of the day. Been thinking of applying to Malcolms to try and get a start on Tippers. I know they have some sort of partnership with GTG so will mention that I done my training through them.

Hope you’re still all inspired and fired up to get through training Donna, don’t think I’ve seen any posts from you recently. What’s the next step for you now?

Oh that’s excellent, keep us posted!
Hi KK,
just be as honest as possible, are you over 25? 30? that will help.
Sell yourself as mentioned, there are plenty of tips on the Internet to assist.
good luck with the CV
Disco.

Im 34 so definately not a young yin I spent most of yesterday doing it. Only included the job I have in work histroy as its not really relevant to driving an LGV. Just some tweaking to do to the design and a cover letter.
Remember to put in covering letter that you would welcome the opportunity of a formal interview or informal chat, as some smaller companies may want to do more of an informal interview unlike the large boys . Peter Smythe gave some good advice previously about saying you will ring them on a set day and time.
