I know this subject has been done to death, but if it makes one of the culprits (or knobheads as I prefer to call them) on here think about it then it will be worth it, I’m talking about the smartarses who are just too clever to wait for a flash when overtaking because they " Know EXACTLY where the back of their trailer is" , yeh right! The other day Mr Bellend who " knows exactly…etc etc, cut in on me and put me half cab in the hard shoulder, the problem was a broken down car was sat ( not the proverbial bus load of schoolkids this time ) with a guy sat in the driver’s seat, I did luckily manage to miss him, but maybe a newbie with fewer miles under his belt would not have, and the guy in the car’s wife would have been a widow. I am not the most even tempered guy and if I had not been leaving at the next junction and caught up with Mr B,… well who knows. So you “drivers” on here who know " Exactly etc etc " …you know who you are! at least give it another yard/metre BEFORE you cut in, or better still, wait for the flash off the real drivers, as trust me, this system has worked for years, so PLEASE stop it now before your smartarsed attitude kills some poor innocent ■■■■■■■ You won’t learn this on a DCPC, NVQ, or ABC or XYZ course, but it’s good advice so take it.
Reckon even CONOR would think this was good advice
If you wait untill there is a two second gap between you and the vehicle which has just overtaken you then light flashing is very rarely needed as most vehicles have returned to your lane anyway! Furthermore flashing your lights at another road user has only one meaning, “to make them aware of your presence” the same as sounding your horn.

Some of the car drivers start to come in when they are alongside the front of my vehicle. They cannot judge their distance. The standard of driving amongst all drivers.professional or otherwise is getting worse.
I dont actually care anymore......Life is too short. And that goes for all the whiners and those who need a good ■■■■■ slap for just coming on here and whining about something that happens every day.....Get over it, deal with it and move on. If you dont, then I guess some of us will read your obituary…So what, people die all the time. No one gets out alive.
If you truly don`t want this to happen, then get a job in an office…But FFS, stop coming on here and crying like a ■■■■■, no gives a FF

Problem is they don’t teach you how to drive anymore, they teach you how to pass the test!

For decades lorry drivers have had a code of conduct, a flash of the lights as a fellow driver passes to let him know he is clear, in my opinion (and many others) is only common courtesy. It’s self righteous pricks like you who spoil this industry.

Please forgve me for coming on a driver’s forum to talk about driving, I should have known better, so sorry that I offended you so much by …crying like a ■■■■■

Quite right.
The reason for flashing in may be lost (wasn’t it because of small mirrors or something?) but it is a tradition, and one that needs to be continued in my opinion.
Many driving traditions have been lost down the years, lets not lose this one.

Your post has no sense to me.
No sense to me either
Why change something that has worked for years and that basically is a safe working practice
Agree, but also please flash in even if you don’t like who I am working for that day, my employer is different every day but I am just a driver all the same

im a driver that likes to flash another to say hes clear and its safe to pull in just like I would expect another driver would do to me but for you and just you id like to rip the front off your truck with the last 10 feet of my trailer and then read your obituary. you need to crawl back under the ■■■■■■■ rock you crawled from and let the real drivers get on with what we do you ■■■■■■■ prick.

I agree, same as if someone flashes me out from a slip road I give a wave if they go past me.
On the whole most HGV drivers are courteous & give you time & space to manoeuvre, unlike women car drivers who look at you & say where shall go ! Or like some women said to me the other day “can you move your van” … It’s an Artic love !!!
Its rare I flash in anymore during the day, not because I don’t want to but because most drivers are cutting in too close. At night however its a different ball game, much more respect.

+1 .Which they accept with unquestionable obedience no matter how ridiculous or detremental to themselves.
Robroy, you are right, i like to give a bit of space before flashing in, but a lot of the numptys seem to think that i am a ( swearword ), for not flashing, its just that i like to give them some space between them and me, unfortunately, they have no patience to wait a few seconds, yet further up the road, they will not flash me in, cos they thought i didnt flash them. On the flashing in point, this system was used for many years, and way before i started driving, we also started it in Europe, we would flash our foreign counterparts, and never got a thank you, until they learned what it actually meant, now days, its accepted throughout, so at least we did something in the education stakes. Its a sad state of affairs when fellow drivers slate someone for daring to mention bad practices on this forum, and shame on them, there are a far lot worse than mentioning road safety, and the blog seems forever to get longer and longer for the trivial things, but thats down to their mindset.

Yeh, I’ve found that myself, more so in the last 10yrs or so since the steering wheel attendant thing became more prevalent, when these guys stopped courteous and helpful practices such as this, the proper drivers come to expect nothing less, and it escalates, even to the point where some of the proper drivers say ■■■■ it and end up doing the same practices, and become as bad as the SWAs, I know the more experienced among us sound like oldfarts to these newer drivers, and they are probably right, but once over, as you are aware, common courtesy, help, and mutual respect amongst drivers was the norm, now as in the rest of society it’s a “I’m all right so ■■■■ you mate” situation as illustrated by somer comments on here.
