Juddian:
Normally Tommy, assuming you are a fairly new driver, i would suggest getting a few years driving experience before trying for the best jobs out there (though you might be lucky) because if you have a major bollox up as a newby you don’t want that bollox up to be on a job that just might be a job for life, if you get my drift, does that make any sense, probably not
This is good advice as I am in the unusual position of having a class 1 offer even though I haven’t passed my test yet. Who you know rather than what as they say!
I know as I new pass I can’t be fussy but I am worried about taking it and I drop a clanger its the best job in my immediate area. Almost want the rubbish job to practice on first. Will have to see at the time.
Edit: Wrong button on phone!

Put failing my test twice now in the mix as well! First time was nerves though.
The Stobarts an hour down the road that is always advertising looks appealing as a start point for now
KCRussell
If it were me i’d speak to the people offering you the good job and be straight and honest with them, tell them you wonder if it might be better if you got a few miles under your belt for the obvious reasons that if you bolloxed summat up you’d queer a job you want with for the long haul.
Ask them if you went elsewhere for a while would there still be a job for you, say this time next year?
You might find they are quite understanding of your worries and talk you into starting straight off with them anyway.

Thanks Juddian.
This is kind of what I am thinking. I am pretty sure the job will be there so long as I can get something else to get the start.
They know I am new and will take me on that basis but whilst he can get me in as new he can’t keep me if I screw up so need to be careful. Not a company that usually takes new passes but this is a favour.
To be fair KCRussell you sound like you have your head screwed on right, companies know they need new blood but not just any bugger, they must see good potential in you to be making the unusual offer anyway.
He’s being very honest in that if you do make a pigs ear of it they can’t keep you on, however that doesn’t help you, puts you under more pressure.
Sounds like a place worth working at, hope it works out for you there mate in the fullness of time
I went straight from passing my class one on a Thursday to starting with a tank container company the following Monday (back in the early 90’s) Theres a lot to learn but I kind of enjoyed there being a technical side to the job not just driving. Just take your time and don’t be afraid to ask questions. No baffles as mentioned above is definitely a lively ride. especially if you have a 25000 ltr tank 3/4 full of treacle. first time I stopped I thought someone had ran into the back of me.
My first 5 years on container tanks were my favourite driving years. good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I’m taking the container tank one I think, it’s better money and it’s what I wanted to do before doing my license, plus they put ya through adr too

I’ve been offered both after driving assessments so I have a choice.
Congrats!
Which one are you edging towards and why?
The tank one, it’s better money and there willing to put me thorough adr too

Sounds like a good choice. Better money, and a company prepared to train you is all positive. ADR is always good to have. What`s not to like?
Good Luck !
If they put you through your ADR, are you able to ‘cash in / collect’ the DCPC hours for it too?
Maybe put them towards your current or next lot of CPC hours…?

Possibly yes, I’ll have to check

half the time I have to struggle to get the curtains open in 30 seconds then find there’s no forklift and handball off 500kg of plaster. But then, I prefer harder work - makes me feel like I’ve earned my wage, .
VOR the trailer, or truck and get the boss to get the railings greased up.
I’m sorry you had to throw 20bags of plaster onto the lorry bed were on site workers moved it on. Stop painting a picture to make this guy go to ■■■■■ container work. You could have just said, I’m the driver, you ordered this gear now get up there and get it off.
I’ve had site labourers handball 5 pallets of floor tiles off my truck before.
I watched, after returning from the ice-cream parlor 3 doors up!
If it is NOT in your job description that YOU will need to be physically fit for the job, (e.g. a drayman), then I think too it is them that should be doing the handballing!
