Curtain siders load restraints

Can anyone help,
The rules on curtain siders & restrains, I an trying to find the rules and laws for the use of the internal load restrains within a curtain sider. As a company I did some work for had cut them out for the reason that they got in the way. As this looks like it is more and more common for people not to use them
Can anyone help with the rules and regs for them?

I can give you a lead to the Health & Safety Executive’s advice. Remember that HSE takes priority over VOSA and PC Plod if push comes to shove. Here goes-

As you can see, this info is in pdf format so it would probably be easier to use if you printed it off.
Best of luck and, if you don’t mind taking advice from an old codger, remember, you can never use too many straps, but someday you’re gonna find out that you can use too few.
Basically, despite most of us having hauled thousands of tonnes of rubbish around the country since the days of horse transport, it has now been decided that we have to follow H&S guys’ rules. There are those who will tell you that they have driven millions of miles in curtain-siders and not had one pallet of beans/coke/cat food move but there are a few innocent folk who have been killed by half a pallet of Heinz leaving a passing lorry by way of an unopened curtain.
Excuse the ramblings- hope the link to the website is OK.

Get yersel a bag of ratchet straps then you’re good to go.

Best piece of advice, but don’t forget-

  1. You’ll need at least 13 straps & ratchets
  2. Don’t forget to remove them when swopping trailers.

I discovered you could get 28 ratchet straps in one side locker of a MAN TGA and I used to try to keep it at that number, very handy when carrying stillages of glass or car axles.

That’s OK, Aston, always a pleasure to help. :unamused:
