I’ve never done tramping before and I have hardly any experience .I need experience badly .Only other work is s–t agency work anywhere near me .Just now that is the 4th highest paying job on jobseekers in Scotland .Either that or sign on for 125 quid a fortnight .For that you can send your bottles mate
Tbh I still think my chances are a bit slim on getting a start with this company anyway but hopefully . Also it is a decent opportunity for me to get started .There is no substitute for experience is one of the best quotes ever and realest .Even in sports that’s a great quote .

If you start working for ■■■■ all, you’ll always work for ■■■■ all mate!
The money you’re stating is about right for 3 shifts (assuming a bit of o/time) with no nights out. If you do all week and nights out for that, you need a psychiatrist not a job mate.
If you’re doing the same job as an experienced driver the company are making the same money out of you so why charge less? Also, the experienced man will be ■■■■■■ off you’re undercutting him. (see above posts!!)
People like you are contributing massively to the ■■■■■ wages drivers are being offered. Grow some balls mate!

Still a poor wage. o/night and meals are not your wage…I have never understood this logic, when I was tramping, meal allowance and night out money added up to £33 TAX FREE a day, over £150 a week!!!,not many occupations pay you a meal allowance to stuff your fat mouth full of food!!..I was taking £500 a week for mincing round the country in a truck, its hardly rocket science is it or particulary taxing work??
It never ceases to make me laugh the people who think they are the be all and end all and should be paid champagne money when they drive a lorry round the country listening to the radio and drinking tea??
Get a grip/reality check or go and get educated and do something that does pay you more than £500 a week for sitting on your arse
moaning. So 5 x 33 = £165 EXPENSES & SUBSISTENCE which left your net WAGE £335 , like the guy said …a poor WAGE, whether you mince around or not.
Correct. Why do drivers think that meal allowance etc. is part of their wage? Chief Execs, managers in fact, all manner of people are allowed expenses, often for tax reasons. But this is not because they earn a [zb] wage, it is in addition to a decent wage if not an excellent wage - and they don’t live in a steel box all week either!!.
Frankly the difference seems to be that some drivers are just not intelligent enough to see it…
So are you comparing yourself to a “Chief Executive/Manager”■■
Who exactly pays night out money and meal allowances??..yes,the company that pays your WAGES!!!
So tell me,what exactly is a 'decent wage for a Truck Driver??
£10 an hour,£15,£20■■
If it was £20 an hour, how long would it be before you moaning ■■■■■ were saying that was ■■■■ and that your below the poverty line, living in a cardboard box eating worms??
Not many of you actually think about the economics of anything, its alright for the Stobarts of this world to make £10 profit a week on each truck in its fleet, but for the smaller companies its totally unviable, but actual profit each week on a truck is harder than most of you can possibly comprehend especially with some of the rates companies want to pay to have their goods transported!!!
The cost of a half sensible truck and trailer is nearing on £100,000,then most of you MOAN like a ■■■■■ if it hasn’t got this and it hasn’t got that, that with the cost of fuel, insurance and all the other business that goes with running transport.
Its all well and good you bleating on about how poor you all are,go do something else if its that crap, yet you all come on here every ■■■■■■■ day moaning about the wages and how great you all are and you all should be earning top money when most of you aren’t savvy enough to stack shelves in Tesco.
Instead of spending most of your sad miserable lives posting irrelevant ■■■■■■■■ on here most of the day, maybe your efforts would be best spent actually driving a truck and trying to be conscientious, working hard and trying to earn the company some money??and then, quite possibly, you may get a pay rise!!!
+1^^^^
Another thing holding us back is this shi tty money hungry gvt…!
Truckulent:
Still a poor wage. o/night and meals are not your wage…
I can see both sides of this argument but the simple fact is that it costs me no more to live in the truck than it does to live at home, I eat the same food, prepared in the same way, and so I personally look on subsistence money as just another factor in my total take-home pay.

No. I was making the point that allowable expenses are not wages.
Who exactly pays night out money and meal allowances??..yes,the company that pays your WAGES!!!Yes. Because it’s much cheaper for them that way…they do it for their good not yours. Just ask the Inland Revenue if expenses are wages. They will set you straight

Enough to earn a reasonable living without having to work 60+ hours a week.If it was £20 an hour, how long would it be before you moaning [zb] were saying that was [zb] and that your below the poverty line, living in a cardboard box eating worms??
Who said anything about cardboard boxes and worms? Your waffle, not mine.

Yep, all the Haulage companies owners/directors are running around in 20 year old Ford Escorts aren’t they mate? The cost of a half sensible truck and trailer is nearing on £100,000,then most of you MOAN like a ■■■■■ if it hasn’t got this and it hasn’t got that, that with the cost of fuel, insurance and all the other business that goes with running transport.

And most are leased not bought. They make a profit or they soon go back!

Oh dear. You really have bought into the 'do the company some good BS haven’t you? The ‘company’ don’t give a ■■■■ about you mate!!! If they did, you’d be on better money - 'cos without the drivers, they’re ■■■■■■…and they don’t care a bugger for the driver in 98% of cases. You’re a dispensable, easily replaced hindrance to their profit!!! I
+1 here here at least someone is talking sense. A crap wage with add ons is still a crap wage.its the company doing you out of decent holiday pay etc.some guys on here must really love paying for the gaffers range Rover.

Same applies to MDs CEOs and other levels of managers, if you can’t hack it running a viable company without screwing your drivers over, ■■■■ off and do something else as there are plenty out there that can and do. Ditto the comments about ability to stack shelves apply equally to the aforementioned.

Not true , not everyone can walk straight into a £30k + job
alza1988:
I have hardly any experience .I need experience badly
Fair play and good luck to you.
The facts are:-
Whilst “some” companies are paying these rates, SOMEONE will work for that rate
If there is nothing else in the area paying any better, what should the op do:-
a/ sit at home watching jezza whilst claiming the dole and refusing to work for “that rate”
b/ get off his arse, be prepared to work for “that rate” and in the process, gain EXPERIENCE which will allow him to “move up the ladder”.
The rates are NOT going to change because SOME people “wouldn’t get out of bed for £400”.
As the op stated, £400 is good money to him, and if he didn’t take the job SOMEONE would/will.
Yes like some east European-£400 is a lot to them…
