Cunning linguists

This sign greets you when you get off the boat in Killingholme:

Another shining example of the linguistic abilities of the English

It would appear that the translation of this not unimportant message was entrusted to someone who would have difficulty in sitting the right way round on a toilet.

OK, so he gets away with the Dutch but the German is simply appalling and was unintelligible to a German friend of mine, which is slightly worrying considering the message that the sign is trying to convey.

Welcome to England, Klaus but we really can’t be bothered with your poxy language cos you bombed our chip shops, etc…
Muppets

My German is bad. But don’t such signs usually just say ā€œLinks fahrenā€?. I may be wrong.

Hi Inselaffe, Agreed mate, this has to be one of the worst attempts I’ve seen… :open_mouth:

Let’s see if we can help…first, let’s tidy up the spelling…

Erinnere dich, fahren immer links.
At least the words now make some sort of sense, but the grammar is awful. :grimacing:

I am not 100% sure about my English, but should not it actually be something like ā€œRemember TO drive on the leftā€ or " Remember: drive on the left!"?

But it’s in Killingholme… may be they mess these signs up purposefully to make it real Killing(-holme).
