PAD is a Gloucester registration.

It’s always been my experience that it is not what you know but who you know and if your face doesn’t fit you will never get anywhere.

I don’t have anywhere near the knowledge of the industry that some in this debate have so I could be a mile off, but from a personal point of view the idea of subbing out to more than one firm, as well as taking on your own work, sounds to me like a good way of ensuring you’ve not got all your eggs in one basket. In the rather choppy world that can be haulage, it doesn’t sound like a bad move to me. As for subbing out your own work, you just need to make that there’s enough margin in it for everyone to be having a slice of the pie.

Final thought Gill, just because a firms running brand new kit doesn’t always mean they are doing fantastically in the figures. In fact quite often its the ones running older but reliable trucks, with no monthly payments to go out, that can have the best paper trail.

Dew.

Thankyou for the advise truckfing and dew. Many thanks
Kindest regards

From what I have seen from your posts on here, you’ll not make it in transport you appear not to have what it takes. You should take up crofting in somewhere like the Shetland or Orkney Isles, or move to Iceland.

Well he is half way there Slab,he lives in North ■■■■■■■ !! Cheers Bewick.

Not until you’ve got half a dozen on a “fast eddie” Franchise Paul can you claim to have “made it”,well for “fast eddie” any road !!! Cheers Dennis.

There are someone from South ■■■■■■■ called Brewer who run about 40 new Scania all on sub contract to Eddie Stobart, don’t why he does not look for his own contracts, all of his vehicles are in Stobarts livery.

Hello georgeking
Thats not quite true. Ed Brewer is from Penrith and he runs around 25 Scanias.
He runs around 18 of these in his own livery and the rest are in his own livery, which is red and white with Brewer stamped on the top.
Ed Brewer runs from two depots, Mardale Rd, Penrith and Old Rugby Truck Stop, Rugby.

Apart from ESL subcontracting (which he has done since the mid 1970’s), he also does subbing from Brewers Road Haulage (which is run by Alan Glendinning) and Alan Glendinning Haulage, both from Penrith. He also has a contract with Dean Auld Transport from Penrith.

Most of the Scanias are Toplines (the oldest been 2006 reg and the newest been 4 2012s), but he runs two Scania R Highlines in his own livery.
I hope this helps george
Kindest regards

Anybody got pics of 70s West ■■■■ By Products motors. There are a few Scania pics on here already but looking for pics of 70s ERFs/Atkis in the dark green, and Sed Atk 400s and 401s in the orange, I used to travel with one of their drivers as a lad in the 70s in some of these before I started driving myself.

Cheers for that Hodge, the one that I travelled in was one of their first 400s on a 77 R reg, at that time I remember they had a 111 Scania on demo, but never actually bought any as far as I know, but later on the driver got a 401 like on the pic as a replacement, but by that time I was driving myself, (not for WCBP) has your mate JC got any pics of those 400s ?

What was the boss’es name at WCBP,was it Turnbull or summat similar,he just missed getting covered with Acid one day when they had one over in a field a’back of Bass Lake in the mid 70’s,both the motors were ERF’s Olive green colour. They were pumping the load off the one in the field and he disconnected a pressure pipe, the acid hit the back of the cab then it melted the Fibre Glass,it just bubbled and ran down past the gear box.I don’t know how much ran down the field from the tank, but nowt grew there for years eh! if it had got into the Lake it would have probably turned it Sterile !!! Cheers Bewick.

Hi Bewick, Can you imagine the panic there would be these days with Elf n Safety and countless other agencies and authorities with a bit of power stopping everything passing along the A66 from Keswick to Cockermouth for a month. In those good old days we just got on with clearing up the mishap and letting everyone else get on with their business.
Cheers. Leyland 600.

Dead right there L600,they would have coned the whole of Bass Lake off nowadays and declared the area between Braithwaite,Embleton and Castle Inn a disaster zone forsure !!It was a mess though and Marra just missed,by a hairs breadth, getting melted into a grease spot ! Cheers Dennis.

Bewick, What about all the deid fish in the Derwent,? there certainly would be some weeping and wailing.!! When the the oil tanker Braer foundered of Fitful Head, Shetland in a gale about 15 years ago and spilled its cargo of light Gulfaks oil there was a terrible who ha, however one of the Shetland ■■■■■■■■■■ stood up at the inquiry and said, " No need tae worry whits 85,000 ton of oil in one cubic mile of sea." As it was the hurricane force south west wind blew all the oil off the surface and covered every field and hoose in the Dunrossness district of south Shetland. So whats a few gallon of acid in all that watter round aboot Bass Lake.
Cheers,Leyland 600
