and lamps a wipe with the Daily Mirror when this big geezer came out with, young
fellah you should be at home playing with your Dinky Toys that’s far too big for you
it was an old Octopus and trailer, he added something like but your driver will be
pleased he’ll be able to see where he’s going, the trailer “boy” was in his 60s and as
we climbed into our respective seats his mouth dropped open, I drove off in the
wag and drag big mouth drove off in a bread van.

Just caught up on the said" drama" on the ■■■■ tipper thread so I get the jist of it now, so just to add my contribution (although it’s got sod all to do with me) I don’t agree for one minute that Denis was bullying the lad I know it was just a bit of a wind up and banter, (as I have done myself in the past) and I have no reason or desire to cross swords with Denis, but the lad seems to have a good knowledge and interest in transport, admittedly a bit naive sometimes( especially his fascination with Stobarts which more than likely is the underlying reason for all the stick) but he is only 18, and it’s a bit of a rarity for the public today ,let alone an 18yr old, to view the haulage ind in high esteem, so maybe we should give him a bit of leeway, (except for the Stobart thing of course, that goes without saying
All I can add “robroy” is that this CG geezer is only supposed to be 18 but he’s quoting that he had seen a South ■■■■■■■■ tipper in 2002 when by my reckoning he would have been 8,or has that nasty “bewick” man got it all wrong !! Cheers Denis, the wife is boiling the pan of watter as we speak, but I’ll need a few more cans of John Smiths first to numb the pain of scalding As I said I’ve no desire to get into some kind of petty feud on here with you, it’s just as I said, a rare occasion when a young lad takes an interest in transport, and a member of the public who actually looks up to a driver today is indeed a rarity. Being a driver today I get all the expressions of contempt from the public every week, ranging from unjustified abuse from ignorant car drivers, to unnecessary o/night parking bans just because we are looked upon as being in the same category as the “P” word people (caravan dwellers) which is banned on here. So any form of admiration and respect is welcome in my opinion. I wasn’t aware of the lad’s claim to have been a haulier ,but I used to claim all sorts of things to ladies of the same age myself when I was 18, so maybe it’s summet similar,… who knows. One thing I will agree with you is the stick and banter about… as you put it Fast Eddie ,that goes without saying, and should be a national sport … Now where’s that pan of hot watter

I am from Lancashire (Liverpool and Central Lancs) but have lived in the North East over half my lifetime, when I first arrived up this way people used to ask me if I was Irish, my wife is a local and in the early years she used to translate for me, but after 40 years I’m “laning ta tark proppa like”.

I can see the arches car and lorry park from my house and walk past it regularly
I never drink in Chester le Street haven’t done for years and some of them have
changed their name but I haven’t heard of that one on the rare occasion I do use
a pub down there it’s the Market Tavern which can be seen from where the park
is, it’s due to re-open shortly the place got destroyed by the recent floods.
