We ran 3 of them,2 like that and 1 was a sleeper that did the distance work,we used them for delivering and collecting groupage for our European services. Peep peep ! Bewick.

Well he has a FIAT Punto apparently Larry,I believe it is a real one and not one that you push around the carpet in the lounge !! So he could probably just about manage this wee Merc,if he has put a scratch on it when he comes back in the yard he’ll get 'em “licked and sticked” and his arse punched out of the gate !! Cheers Dennis.

Hello Bewick
Thankyou for that info on the wee Mercedes.
For your infomation, I do have a FIAT Punto (a REAL one and not one you pull on the carpet) and I wouldn’t dream of scratching such a smart lorry.

There was no need to drop a trailer like this “CG”,where were you taught ? “The Fast Eddie” school ■■ How do you expect the next driver to pick this one up ? and Smiths of Whitehaven are desperate for their paper (which they always were !!) any ideas Marra ?
rigsby:
what happened there dennis , one leg sunk in and over she goes ? , dave
It was one of two poxy 26ft single axles we aquired when we bought the own account fleet of Henry Cooke Ltd.,the driver lived in Ambleside so as the trailer was loaded for Whitehaven we let him take it home as it was on the way !! The stupid “person” dropped it on the car park to go up where he lived with the F88.He comes back next morning and Oh! dear,a landing leg had sunk into a drain and over the unstable poxy thing went !! But anyway,we reloaded all 15 ton onto a 40 footer and not one reel was damaged !! Thats the driver in this shot, but I couldn’t get him to look at the camera !! I sent both these trailers to York at Warrington and had the chassis stretched to 40ft and put two curtainsider bodies on them for our Bowater Scott traffic and our Drum job from Aintree, but this wasn’t satisfactory so I returned them to Yorks and they used the two ROR axles on one trailer to make a tandem and they fitted a new York tandem bogie under the other and Bingo our first two tandem curtainsiders, before we started buying the “best” Bo-Alloy Tautliners. Cheers Dennis.

Dennis, I didnt think a Fiat Punto could T-Bone`, and do so much damage !
Did the Police ever catch the car driver , as he sped away towards the Wigton area ?

Cheers, cattle wagon man.
I don’t think “CG” would dare venture over Dunmail Raise CWM,there’s some big strong Lasses in Ambleside and they would have him for breakfast no danger !! Anyhow,he daren’t go to Fletchertown and thats on his own doorstep eh! Cheers Dennis.
Stampers of Rutherglen who used to have a depot at Penrith, doing container work to and from Southampton, these old 180 Gardeners were indestructable, I heard a tale that when they were gradually being replaced by the new type Sed-Atk 400s in the late 70s early 80s one of the drivers tried to get his replaced by draining the oil but it still would not blow, maybe a bit hard to believe I reckon, does anybody that knew Gardeners think this is possible or just driver BS ?
