The Tyson Burridge Atki 4 wheeler was origionally new to John McGuffie of Grange-over-Sands in 1969 when he obtaind his first “A” licence from Coward Bros. Sedbergh.I think it struggled to achieve a 10ton payload because of the substantial build quality of both chassis and platform. We ran an ex Sutton 4 wheeler of similar spec,a year or two later and we could just manage a 10ton payload, mainly because of the fact it had an all Ali flat(Alf Sutton wasn’t daft!!)Cheers Bewick.

Hello hodegturbo,
Thanks for the infomation Carr’s Flour Mills tankers. I didn’t know they went to Duncan Hill’s to have there insides washed out,I though they just went to be washed there.

Hello.
I think that A.D Boyes Volvo F12 is a yard shunter based at Tata Steel (Formerly Distington Engineering) at Workington (behind RPA Office). They’ve got a old Volvo FL10 yard shunter at Ireby (I think that was a Irvings Transport, Mealsgate before it went there?).
Please, can anyone comment so I know I’m right?

sorry to bewick for the quality of this one, it was taken coming away fron the steel works in workington

Hello little ha ba,
I will look forward to seeing those photos tomorrow (thanks marra). I will post some of my resent Lightfoots in return (on by Friday).

Hello.
Just to let everyone know, Distington Vintage Rally is on this Sunday (3rd of July). Gates Open at 9.30am and it costs £5 to get in. I’ve gone for the last 3 years, and they have a great show of Lorries, Buses, Cars & Tractors. Well Worth Going.
Just in case anyone whats to go for the first time who hasn’t been before, the Rally is held at Hayes Castle Farm, which is right next to the old road through Distington.
Thanks,

Thanks a lot for that shot “lhb” that is one of our “A” series NEC299P (a favourite of mine!) Fleet name ‘Judy’ after a l’al whippet ■■■■■ I’d had since my school days and cause of old age had to put her to sleep in IIRC Nov '75 so the next new motor that went on the road Jan '76 I called Judy!!! You surprise me with that shot as that tractor would very rarely,if ever, have visited W.■■■■■■■■■ would think the load would probably have been 20ton of Pig iron for Fords Dagenham foundry. Why do I say that? well the trailer is not a McGuffie drum trailer but a Bewick fleet trailer. If it had been a McGuffie trailer it would be loaded for Midland Roller makers in Crewe who took loads of Pig on flats and had the finest crane driver on the magnet anywhere!! He didn’t just drop the magnets full weight onto the iron before lifting and break a board or two like some of them did! And when the load was off he’d sweep the magnet all over the platform and pick up every last little bit of iron,a gentleman!! Thanks again Bewick. PS this is a shot of the ERF stood in the depot at Milnthorpe when it was new,I bought it from HLH ERF dealers Whiffler road Norwhich. Its spec was Gardner 180LXB/Fuller 609/Kirkstall HR.

I reckon its “GOLD” but painted so it could get through customs in the I.O.M :stuck_out_tongue:
ANON.

Found another interesting shot of a fron’t end of one one of the tippers we ran, shows the Tipping Pack, which had a 16HP Briggs & Stratton engine. The shot would have been taken about Oct/Nov going by the new Atki pulled up in fron’t of the tipper.
