Cumbria companies

i,ve done my time there, and i wasnt impressed :frowning:

.

well its not my area, but i put it together like this…work gets done at crawfords garage, breakdowns done by crawford, planner, ex crawford as is secretary,
i could be totally wrong, but i was assuming that the rpc at plenmeller was ex crawfords work and thats how mrs got there, as they have mondi and rpc work all over,

hiya, remember ridley’s always very tidy motors, overnighted with them many times at the defunct norman’s cafe at brotherton the old memory isn’t working but i seem to remember red borderer’s and quite a few of them, thanks harry long retired.

dafdave:
Going off track slightly does anyone know if harold[big h]is still driving or still alive

Dave , “my man in the know”, who used to Shunt for Croppers before leaving for pastures new with TDG , tells me that Big Harold is certainly alive, and as far as he is aware ,is still doing his stuff for Croppers.

youngnad; Eddie Brewer,s Daf is now a showpiece in the Glasshouse at Crick. You should be ashamed of yerself, letting the side down on the Ferry approach road, and then boastin about on here.

Here,s a few more on Shap. Taken from One big picture currently on loan to Shap Parish Council, and on show in the Memorial Hall, where some of the old codgers on here might have been fed and watered ,when the road was blocked.

Hope you like them. Robbo

A few photos out of a book about Marchon,Whitehaven,a place I went in many times - up that bloody hill - when on tanker work.

The AEC MK5 driver would press a button and be loaded with 16 tons of phosphate rock from the docks and away to the works,I wonder how many trips he did up that hill? Any of you old ■■■■■■■■■ recognise him? And while I’m on rambling away, what happened to West ■■■■■■■■■■ By-Products from Flimby, they ran into Marchon I think, maybe with acid.
Brilliant old clip of Shap Buycrider, reminds me of the Woodhead and A66.

Buycrider… brilliant photos of Shap you ‘ve added you feel as if your there. I never knew it though, late 70’s before I was big wheelin’.
Your right Chris… it does put you in mind of Woodhead.

Thanks for that fellers. The Parish Council lady has told me to take a memory stick down with me at the weekend, she,s got a load of old Shap transport stuff scanned onto her pc. So I,ll be busy at the week-end Photobucketing.  We.ll see how it goes.

Loaded with one of the mrs drivers that work out of Haltwistle at Flint last week when doing an a trip for DHL do mostly plastic bottles I think, He was an ex Martin Oliver Driver (think he is still paying the fine) Hope that helps a bit george
Whoops posted this before I saw what yougnud was doing might cross paths sometime nud as i do the odd shift for DHL out of Prudhoe

hi, done 2 prudhoes last week, plastic bottles?? somebody keeps sticking plywood on my trailer, 26 ton of it, i would like bottles, but when i got them they were handball for tetrosyl at heywood.
by products from flimby, hmmmm, i was born and bred at flimby(not wigton) they had a few rigids till they bought a erf artic brm 772k i think joe bethwaite was on that for a time, then they followed with atki borderers, the drivers i can remember are walter smith, stan fletcher, ? clark, billy ellwood, tom foster, not too sure but i think the erf was a 205 ■■■■■■■ which was the 180 uprated, that size didnt last long and the atkis were 220s,
the firms long gone as is the factory, the land joined the pit and its a trading estate now.

yungnad:
i was born and bred at flimby(not wigton)

Noted .

hi ya all, them photos of shap also the jungle cafe brought back some memories, did my n/s at hadrians camp carlisle,57to 59, with the cherrypicker’s(11th hussar’s) used to go over shap two or three times a week, down to kendal then back through the lake district, there was a cafe on the a6 think was at high hesket, can’t remember the name of that cafe, :unamused: :unamused: seem to be popular with lorry drivers in them days, thanks for the memories lads, bumper

That cafe on the A6 Bumper. Does “The Astra”, ring any bells?? That was on the Southbound side. There was another old favourite on the Northbound side, I can,t remember what it was called.  It had a pub at the end of the lorryparking area. It was best known by the pub manager,s name,if I remember correctly. I,m asking around to find some one whose braincells are still active.  Hang on a sec.  I was just doing the pots, when the name “Chippy,s” went through me mind. Any good??
