This is a circa 1974/5 shot of a couple of Atkis parked at Belaside on the A6 between Milnthorpe and Beetham.the fron’t one is a McGuffie unit with a load of drums for Marchon,Whitehaven on a Crane Fruehauf widespread still in the old Mcguffie colour of light blue and maroon. The Crane/F trombone was a 38/58ft extender which was used primarily on long beams out of Ibis Structral Steel,Kendal, but on this occaision it was loaded with long bar for the shipyard in Barrow,we couldn’t get into the yard with it so it was dropped on the lay-by for the night !! Cheers Dennis.
This is an early 1970 shot at about mid-day on a Saturday,we’ve just finished loading my D1000 and the Mastiffs trailer has been loaded and dropped on the Paper Mill trailer park at Beetham. The Bedford had just come in from Rochester, loaded with paper sacks from DRG Robinson Sacks. We’d be off down the road at mid-day on Sunday!!
This is a 1975 shot of a couple of McGuffie C/F widespreads stood at Crooklands, the sheeted one has come down from Workington as is,I think?,loaded with pig iron probably for Midland Roller Makers at Crewe where we went quite a bit with the flats and the bloke on the magnet was the best hand ever he never once flopped it onto the load which sometimes pushed a board through on the deck ! then when you were tipped he ran the magnet over the platform and picked every little bit of iron up,great!! Used to send him some cigs at Christmas. The other trailer is loaded with new D.A 45 gallon drums for Marchon at Whitehaven.

I must not have put the handbrake on tight when I stopped on top of Stainmoor in early March 1962 en route to Leeds with Quaker Oats and got my camera out to take this photo. Do you think it has run back all the way back down Stainmoor onto this site Rob Roy after nearly 50 years.■■ Leyland 600
Sorry L600 that has gone right over my swede, can you explain which photo you are on about mate■■?

Yes I did mean Caunces of Rufford, they used to bring fruit and veg to Workington wholesalers then load Marchon products back to Liverpool as a rule.My Dad drove a number of different wagons at Caunces. There was an old Seddon 4-wheeler with a Perkins in it, an Austin which he had on a milk collection round, an Albion Reiver on general, a Park Royal-cabbed AEC Marshal on general and finally a 1970 Ergomatic Marshal which was the last one he had before going to Allied Mills.
I believe Danny had the last new Mammoth Major at Caunces, which was a big coal tipper - complete with greedy boards.
Was talking to my Dad about Danny this afternoon. It seems he was well known at Marchon & that if he wasn’t at Workington station at 6am each morning to tip fruit & veg (leaving Rufford at 3am), they were ringing the Police at Windermere to see if he’d had an accident on the way through when my Dad did this load, he got a stern questioning when he backed onto the platform at 6:15; everyone wanted to know where he’d been…
I’d completely forgotten in earlier replies (& my mother reminded me today) that Danny’s grandson is currently starring in Coronation Street as Frank Foster - Andrew Lancel.

i see some people who contribute on this thread think its ok to take pictures that i have put on here and now off my facebook page and repost them elsewhere without even being polite enough to ask firstTo hodgeturbo …: I,ve only ever been on Facebook once in my life when the " ■■■■■■■■ trucks" section on there was pointed out to me by my daughter who is on Facebook all the time
, the photo that I nicked was of an old mates motor D.Sisson DAF, of which I have enquired about before on here, so when I did see it I put it on,(… and incidentally admitted to nicking it) but if your comment was aimed at me, and the photo was yours, I can only apologise for ■■■■■■■ you off about it. Roy
After apologising for this I later found out that it was aimed at the wrong man and that the photo was already on here on another thread anyway . Since then there has been dissaproval shown to other users by original photo owners, in fact I jave just been PMd for the same reason
. I have again apologised to the guy in question. However speaking as somebody who has put numerous pics of my own on the internet, I can not see why anybody would do the same if they did not want them taken, only to be shared with people with a mutual interest, (unless of course they ended up on e.bay), I do not know the ins and outs of copyright rules ( mainly because life is too short to be arsed to find out
) so as far as I know I am not looking at a death sentence, anybody got any comments?
Our busy workshop at Milnthorpe circa 1990, where we had 4 inspection pits in use.

Hi Robroy, it is a minefield. I have often said that if I have put a picture on the internet I should not be surprised if somebody takes it off and a lot on my website are available for all but it is the e-bay thing that really gets me wound up. I now either do not put them up or deface them so they cannot be sold. Each day is different, some days I laugh and it’s c’est la vie when I see one of mine but other days I just see red and want them all taken off.

Hello EDDIE STOBART FAN
Ok, I do support Stobarts (as I am a great fan), but the ‘old girls’ as you call them, were NOT the start of the ■■■■■■■■ Haulage Industry!
Before Eddie had bought his first Bedford TK up at Caldbeck, Brady’s, Brown’s, Bewick’s & Robsons where in there Prime Years. It was only in the 1980’s, when Stobarts got the MB contract, did they expand from 25 Lorries in 1985 to 300 in 1990.
PLEASE, Please get your infomation right on Stobarts.
Kindest Regards
