I seem to remember this Comet of Graham’s featured in a Leyland Motors advert on the front of The Commercial Motor circa 1965 and the location was in Thornthwaite Forest The photo was a front nearside threequarter view I think.
Cheers, Leyland 600

Noo then Gerald ! as reluctant as I am to contradict a “senior Marra” I think you are aboot 5 or 6 years ahead of yourself with the date of this fine shot of the JWG Comet (not a Super Comet either) I believe it was circa 1958/9 when the LAD cab was first launched going by the reg no. In 1965 Leyland Motors were launching the Ergo cab and the reg suffix was “C” IIRC so they wouldn’t be promoting an earlier model surely. Brady’s got one of the first production Ergos and it was a Badger “C” reg IIRC. We’ll have to get in touch with “Uncle Puzzle” and he will give us the low down, is he still “with us” do you know ? Anyhow, I recall as a Lad going into Gillerthwaite with AHB to load pulp wood for Bowaters so would they be “subbing” off JWG or was it their own traffic,I also recall calling in to the old JWG Garage at that time but obviously the “age” restriction prevented me from learning the reason. Cheers Dennis.
Dennis , The Comet I had realised it was such when I looked closely after posting and did edit it quickly you must have been waiting for me to post. No the wagon would come into service in about June or July 1962, I had a new Clydesdale 560 HRM in August 1962 painted by Pzle & Co.I think a lad called Lol Jackson drove the Comet, I will find out. What do you think of the ADB all white motor ? I know someone who would not be pleased. No he did not accompany me to Kent to view the ERF as he was not too well then plus his sight was very poor then. I have just heard that Williams wife Mary has passed away this last day or so well into her 90s, a lovely lady.
As for the introduction of the LAD cabs, Norman D and I were serving our apprenticeships in Carlisle starting in 1957 we used to walk up Botchergate most lunchtimes but watching the dozens of wagons heading north & south when in 1958 these odd looking Albions started to appear and the chassis and scuttle deliveries stopped (an every day sight then) this was the start of the LAD era. Pity Norman is’nt with us to back me up.
Happy New Year to You and everyone else,
Leyland 600

.Was that 143 sold to Stampers at Kirkbride and was in a crash then sold to a dealer in Heysham . I picked up a 143 from Stampers for export 5 or 6 years ago in two tone green
I don’t know who got it off tony markley,i will ask neil garner next time I see him
Is this the Scania 143m to which you refer ?
Photographed at Kirkbride Truck Show , possibly 7 or 8 years ago , soon after its repaint .
I understand this Scania was later involved in an accident , and was written-off .
Hope this information is of help .
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
