The problem with most tipper men, and I was as bad myself when I started, is that they only look at the tare weight. Put a trailing axle on a
Ford Transit and plate it at 26 tonnes and they would be queuing to buy it.

Don’t give “dew” and the Woodend Clan ideas David :open_mouth: Cheers Dennis.

Dave the Renegade:
Stobart Group is selling 51% of its famous trucking division to pay off debts and concentrate on its energy, air and rail markets.

The deal announced today with Isle of Man investment manager DBAY involves selling a majority stake in its Warrington-based Eddie Stobart business for £280.8m.

This is made up of £195.6m in cash, £44.1m in shares, giving the group 49% of the buying company, and £41.1m in debt assumed by DBAY.

Stobart Group will retain the Eddie Stobart brand, the biomass transport operation, which is 8% of the vehicle fleet, and most of the freehold sites used by Eddie Stobart, which last year generated earnings before interest and tax of £25.6m on revenues of £475.7m.

The deal will allow Stobart Group to invest up to £55m in the growing biomass sector via Stobart Green Energy by investment in existing and new green energy plants, including a proposed site at its Runcorn transport hub.

The air division includes London Southend Airport and Carlisle Lake District Airport, where the group said it is focused on passenger growth through the demand for regional airport capacity in London and the South East and the UK as a whole.

Focusing on the rail sector, the group said its civil engineering business will continue to focus on third party rail contracts and will support Stobart Green Energy with its green energy plant investment plans.

Cash from the acquisition will be used to fund a share buyback of up to £35m of the company’s ordinary shares over the coming year and repay an existing £100m loan, leaving it with minimal net debt.

The group said today’s deal “represents another stage of delivering on our strategy of realising the value of our more mature assets at the right time”.

William Stobart will leave the group board and lead Eddie Stobart Logistics as chief executive, driving growth in the business as a private company.

Stobart chief executive Andrew Tinkler said: “This is a further stage in delivering our strategy of creating and realising value for our shareholders.

“Moving forward, we are focused on capitalising on the opportunities in our Infrastructure and support services divisions, enhanced by investment in Stobart Green Energy.”

William Stobart added: “I really welcome this investment from DBAY and look forward to heading up the new partnership as chief executive.

“DBAY have a strong track record of working with existing management teams within businesses, as they will do with us, to help drive growth.

“We already have an extremely loyal customer base who we look forward to continuing to work with. It is an exciting time for us to grow this business and I am looking forward to this next stage and the opportunities that it will bring for our employees and customers.”

DBAY Advisors is a regulated investment manager based on the Isle of Man. It manages funds on behalf of institutional investors, foundations and family offices.

It says members of the DBAY team have a record of building businesses and creating value in the logistics sector.

From around the web

This sale is a bit bizzare, Andrew Tinklers purchase of Eddie Stobart is one of the most brilliant pieces of business I’ve ever seen.

Both Andrew Tinler & Sam Ostle know a very good deal, people from Kirkby Stephen must be very financially astute!!!

“Georgeking” back on TNUK ■■? Westa bin hiding , Marra ?
I thought you`d left here a long time ago . :unamused:

Its always good to read an accountants storyline.
Theyre the ones who know how to run a ( haulage ) business ,..............but have never run the same one. Are you involved in the current saga , "Georgeking" ? Someone like you could be invaluable , - being a ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ yokel. Anyway , were all awaiting further news about the “Chuckle Brothers” .

You cant put Sam Ostle in the same grade as Tinky. Sams the honest one.

So whereabouts in the spec was a saving of 600kgs made Paul ? was it in the body and gear or the chassis or a combination of both ?,or mebe you got out of the cab when the 11 reg was tared Marra,eh! half a ton plus per load will add up a bit on a busy day, every little bit helps as the old lady said when she ■■■■■■ into the sea :sunglasses: Cheers Dennis.

hi dennis the savings in the body mostly I think the 05 has a Wilcox body with crossmembers in it and underfloor tipping gear so is 1 foot longer and 5 foot deep the 11 has a ppg asphalt body with no crossmembers and 4 foot 3 inches deep.the chassis on both are the same length the 05 is a 420 with steel wheels and the 11 is a 480 with a retarder and alloy wheels.the retarders are 200 kg but the weight saving in the wheels will make them about the same I think.no adblue on a scania dew

Fair do’s you do a lot of work to require the retarder? Heard good reports but it’s the weight disadvantage that put a lot off I think.

" ■■■■■■■■ Gill " was spotted at the Carlisle Vintage Rally & Modern Truck Show yesterday . :unamused: :unamused: :exclamation:

He appeared a little displeased because there were no Stobbies in the line-up. :frowning: .
Nevertheless ,…he was observed having a thorough look around , and making good use of his camera.
Hell no doubt be beating me to showing photographs of the days event .

Hasta owt to say ,…“Dave the Renegade” ? :unamused: :exclamation:

It appears that , along with “Bewick” , weve ruffled a few feathers along the way . :unamused:  Never mind , but at least since "■■■■■■■■ Gill" has found a lass , he hasnt been making as many mistakes on TNUK .
I applaud him for now having graduated to posting more-sensible trivia. One only has to read his postings of a year ago
to see that he`s now maturing .

Right-ho , lads , heres a photograph of a newer ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ Volvo . But ,..........will I be now upsetting "nelly-whatshisname" , because he berates anyone who posts modern wagons . By the way ,.......whats happened to him ■■ Not even a squeak from him for a while now .

I was at the Carlisle show on sunday & touched a green & grey model truck that had a sign saying ‘do not touch’
M.& N. Garner were displaying a couple of tractor units at Truckfest Scotland a few years ago .
After having uncoupled the trailer , the driver is seen checking over before making his way to the arena.

And your point is ? Bewick.

A good try , “nelly1972” , but I did not type all you have alleged in your entry .

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

You asked where I was as you had’nt heard from me… I was at Carlisle show on sunday, called into the model/craft shed & had a play about with some model cattle lorries on a table with a sign that said ‘do not touch’ well the old geezer with the red jumper never even said booo… I got bored & went back & sat in the restored truck I brought to display… Any reason why you did’nt challenge me in person? Instead of behind a computer screen??

You obviously havn’t seen him “in person” Nelly,he’s 6’ 4" and weighs 18 stone, solid muscle, and has competed in both the Worlds strongest man and also that wife carrying race, you should count yourself lucky he didn’t come across you pal. :sunglasses:    Bewick.

Hi “nelly1972” ,
So you hid behind a veil of sly anonymity . :unamused: The only visitors to a Show who play around with models on display are
uneducated barsteward sprogs , sometimes accompanied by their guardians ( some don`t have parents) .

Perhaps you felt quite proud of yourself that you deliberately showed no consideration to the exhibitors.
Do you choose to allow outsiders to mess around with your possessions , I wonder ? Nowt clever in that , eh ?

Next time , please introduce yourself, and your elders . I would be pleased to meet you all.
