We put it in a similar league to the MAN “H” a bit heavy and a bit thirsty,we always switched the demos about onto different work but from memory all the lads wanted their Scanias back without exception  but as long as this was the case they didn’t mind, especially if their motor went back into service freshly painted and lettered or they maybe got a newer Scania  Cheers Dennis.

Found this one "H"of a later DAF demo in the fleet Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Never did get to drive a demonstrator the nearest I got was a brand new Scammell
straight off the motor show stand at I think Glasgow it was a purchased motor and I
was told to really try it out to see if further purchases of the Trunker was a viable
option, I often wondered was they trying to tell me something (I was a hard driver)
or something but I did drive it hard on nights and couldn’t kill it and I reported it as
suitable for service, and a couple more were purchased good old motor the 680.
thanks harry, long retired.

The 4 wheeler Atkinson was new to John McGuffie of Grange-over-Sands when he got his “A” licence in late '68,I believe he bought the Atki off J.W. Graham,Bass Lake who were Atki agents at the time,he then swapped the Atki for a new Atki unit (H reg) and a number of widespread Crane 40ft trailers, all from JWG.He followed this up by adding a new Scania 80 again from Grahams, this would be about the time the late George Graham left the family business at Bass Lake to set up,in Carlisle, what has proved to be one of the most successful Scania dealerships in the UK and still in family ownership.Cheers Bewick.

Hi Bewick, I remember when John McGuffie got his new Atki circa 1968, It ran pulp up to Thames Board Mills at Workington quite often off Brady’s. When Tyson acquired it the late Geordie Charters was the regular driver, I believe it still exists lying in the yard at Distington.
Cheers Leyland 600.

In the late 60s early 70s when I was on for McMurdo one of our regular stopovers was the RIBBLESDALE at Longton south of Preston and George and the wee Atki were regulars he was one of the old school was George. Eddie.

Aye ye a richt Eddie, alway good for a good yarn etc. He had an AEC Park Royal cabbed Mercury when he worked for ■■■■ Stamper (Snowball) of Dearham prior to working at Burridge’s. His son Alan is Jim Lawson’s heid lang load driver. !!

Curly Cargill a good friend of ■■■■■■■■■■ john eh

donnans

That trailer looks a bit rough looks to have seen some service. Wullie Irving from Cockermouth used to tell us about Old Donnan when they were loading fish he had an early form of weigher when he struggled to get his hand between the wing and wheel that was you good to go.

Bye the way does anybody know or heard of Wullie Irving lately when him and George Charters got together they were some team never a dull moment. Eddie.
