Leyland600:
Hi Harry, The Guy in question was owned by Bewick’s pal Percy Unsworth from about Lindal I think, no doubt he will put us right when he sees this photo, I can remember seeing the wagon often loading in Robsons yard at Durranhill.
Cheers, Leyland 600

hiya,
Thanks for that “L600” I thought it was unusual to see one of Robbo’s with anything
other than a local registration number, was it in the maroon and cream livery ■■.

I can remember Coward Bros. from Sedbergh buying one of those Guy Warrior 4 wheelers new around 1961/1962.
The reg. no. was similar to that of Percy`s motor. Maybe it was supplied around similar time , and most likely from
Clitheroe-based T.G.B. Motors, from where Cowards bought their Guys.
It was contracted to collecting animal feedstuffs from Liverpool to Lunesdale Farmers in Sedbergh.
Tommy Packham was the driver until he had health problems , forcing him off manual work. He later became a Ribble bus driver.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Hi Harry, Yes it was and all Percy’s subsequent lorries were painted in the same style. Leyland 600

Hi “Leyland600” ,
Even in low-axle , you`ll be able to pass “C.G.” in his Fiat Punto . :exclamation:

Do you need stabilizers when the strong cross-winds blow in from the Solway ?

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Cheek CWM       !!!

You could easily overtake CWM with your car CG,he would be walking the cattle faster than one of his old Leylands could carry them.
Cheers Dave.

That is correct Jim. According to my man anyway, and he usually knows what he is on about. He was a fitter/driver with Hudsons in the early 1970,s. He said that when it first arrived at Hudsons ,it had a wooden cab.  Then it got the Leyland one fitted. It has been retired for a number of years. He started to tell me how many sprockets it had on the flywheel; I think he must have stopped when he realised that I had fallen asleep.

this cab was built by A Finlinson, who I work with now, its on a Spanish dodge chasis.

Hi “Gritterboy” ,
Welcome to TNUK.
Where was A. Finlinson based , please ?

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

hi we are doing research for my uncle who drove for Marchon in Whitehaven in the 60s 70s 80s we are looking for old pictures of Marchon Transport. I work on the highways driving gritters etc.

Thanks for the reply.
Sorry , but I am unable to help in your Marchon Transport research as I live in the south of the county.
Good luck with your project. I am sure others on here will be of assistance to you.

Thanks for the pics , “Gritterboy” .
I had forgotten about the Spanish Dodge being re-cabbed.

Many thanks , McWilliam , for displaying these -and all others too- photographs of Robson`s of Carlisle.
I may be wrong , but the Ford Thames Trader MHH 197 appears to have been photographed on the southern approach
( A6 ) into Kendal , close to the ■■■■ & Dolphin pub. This would obviously be before the M6 Motorway took the heavy traffic
away from Kendal and over Shap Fell.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

You are 101% right about the location of the Robson Trader CWM,I wonder who took that shot ? Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Is the last picture the Guy a subbies motor no moniker on the front and a
Lancashire registration number and apart from the headboard no other
signwriting is visible.
thanks harry, long retired.

Mr Gill the answer to your question I do not know, however I hope that no one minds me posting Robsons photos, probably the finest ■■■■■■■■ haulier after Stobart & Jenkinsons.

You have put some fine shots of Robsons on the thread “McWilliam” but you have got your placements the wrong way round ! Robsons were a fine general haulier in the true sense of the meaning! One of the other two hauls their own products and the other wouldn’t have got off the ground if Robsons had continued as a going concern and not been sold to UG.Great shots though Cheers Bewick.

Hi Lads, TGB Motors of Clitheroe were Guy Distributors at the time that shot of Unsworths motor in Liverpool, but W.Keith & Son at Flookburgh were also Guy agents so I would hazzard a guess that Unsworths may have got their Guy from Keiths.Cheers Dennis.

McWilliam:
Roger Aldhouse has kindly posted this photo on one of the Dumfries pages, I will remove it if the owner requests me to do so. What is the connection between Hodgsons & Robsons?

I don’t know about any connection with Robsons but I know that Hodgsons operated “hand in glove” with Watts and their trunk motors ran from Watts depot at London Colney,Watts providing all Hodgsons back traffic north.IIRC Hodgsons other “business” interest was a China and Fancy goods shop in Carlisle ! Cheers Bewick.

Hi Dennis,
I am sure I have seen that photograph somewhere before , and there was more background , -showing part of the ■■■■ & Dolphin pub.

Your memory should be good enough to remember the exact number of flat topstones on that wall ,…plus the distance between the
parallel poles and their stanchions. :sunglasses:  .
After all ,…you will have walked past there many times in earlier years . There is still the “Reserved Parking” notice of yours. :grimacing:

But ,…of course , we don`t tell the TNUK readers that ,…do we :unamused:  :exclamation: :exclamation:
