hiya,
Just my opinion but the splodge of white at the bottom spoils the look, it
looks like it’s been daubed with some left over emulsion, on the roof looks
OK but I think the bottom bit would be better self coloured, sorry.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hello Leyland 600
Thankyou marra.
I just happened to be passing and noticed the lorry parked next to Derick Tolson’s Scania 124L.
Jim Murray was kind enough to let me wander around the yard and let me take the photos
Kindest regards

0Hi CG. Seeing that you have posted a photo of the very latest wagon in the A.D. Boyes fleet here is a photo of one of the company’s first wagons acquired along with a Vulcan from Ireby haulier Jake Strong when A.D took over the business in 1952. I took this photo at the Royal Show on the Town Moor at Newcastle on Tyne circa 1960 when I accompanied Robbie with his beloved Leyland Beaver taking Johnny Little’s (a well known exhibitor of fell ponies) of “The Guards” Ireby ponies for exhibition at the show.
Cheers Leyland 600
Hello Leyland 600
Excellent photo marra. Many thanks for posting that
I’m I right in thinking Boyes ran a Albion Reiver 6 wheeler that was named “The Fastest Reiver in the North”■■
Kindest regards

Albion Reiver Haltwhistle…tif (263 KB)Hi CG, You are right that A.D. Boyes had an Albion Reiver, it was not named “The Fastest Reiver in the North” but it certainly was with a jockey that could make it sing, Bewick will back me on that. Here it is with a load of timber from Tyne Dock, South Shields en route to Whitehaven in late summer 1963. The location is the A69 between Bardon Mill and Haltwhistle. I was riding shotgun with a leg in plaster and had my camera with me.

Great shot that L600,I was living in Kendal by the time you took that one! When AD bought Jakes business he got shot of the Vulcan and replaced it with a new Comet with Homalloy cab ?,William Gate drove the Comet from new and RWB joined him in the cab when he left school, when young Alex left school a year or so after RWB he rode “shotgun” with AD on the Beaver, then as soon as RWB was 17 they managed to get another “A” licence granted (quite a feat in those days !) and they bought a new 5ton Trader for RWB to drive, bit hazy here, but when RWB went “walkabout” ( into Ray-o-phane for a while ?) young Alex was turning 17 so they bought a new 7 ton Trader to replace the 5 tonner.I’m just guessing here but RWB re-joined the firm and obviously went onto the Beaver.AD had given up regular driving in the late 50’s and IIRC there was a driver on the Beaver called Freddy Miller from Wigton. However, the Beaver must have been replaced by the new Reiver in the early 60’s and being a single drive 6 wheeler it would’nt have been much heavier than the old Beaver so they would have got an automatic lift in ULW on the Beaver “A” licence to accomodate the Reiver,if this makes sense.L600 will fill the gaps in and ,of course,RWB was never one to “hang about” eh! nothing too big or too heavy for that Lad Cheers Bewick.PS Iv’e ridden many a mile on the bonnet of that Beaver,as well as on the bonnet of the Comet, must have been a right little bloody nuisence, but I loved it

Nah! Tom,I was a Leyland man in them days, then when they got a Trader I changed my alligence eh! Dennis.
