Well now then, lets change the subject and here’s something to get the “Waverton Vicar” rev’d up,if he understands of course  I just read in the financial press over the weekend that the “fast eddie” mob have finally persuaded( probably bribed!) the ex Chairman of Tate & Lyle( who incidentally presided over a slide in T&L fortunes) to become the new NON excecutive Chairman of the “fast eddie” group, which would seem he must have given up trying to become the Chairman of a “normal” PLC.One thing is for certain I bet there wasn’t a queue of applicants at the “chuckle brothers” Boardroom door for the job of their " Non exec Chairman",Job description----- Must be totally amenable and plyable to all Board (sorry Tinks orders) instructions,at all times.Failure to comply will result in receipt of P45 ,and ejection by security from the premises with all personal effects in black bin bag slung after said ex Chairman.By all accounts the reputation the “chuckle brothers” now enjoy within the City I wonder if the new Chairman “held his nose” when he signed on the dotted line, agreeing to accept “tinks” 30 peices of Silver.Watch this space, bets are been taken as to how long this new Chairman will last, not for long I would guess if he insists on normal levels of PLC conduct.Right come on “CG” lets have your “take” on this news ? :unamused: Bewick.

Hello Bewick

Well marra, my take on the news is that it’s a bad move for the Stobart Group

Yet another board member who hasn’t ever driven a HGV or who has worked in a logistics role in a business

I think this lets the company down. Its becoming to the point that the only person who has driven (and still occasionally does) a HGV is William Stobart.

What good is it having people managing a haulage company who haven’t even set foot in a lorry■■?

Its a bad as these transport managers who have done a “logistics degree” and think they are “logistics experts” and can “organise a transport fleet” without even having experience as a HGV driver and knowing how life is on the road.

Truth is they couldn’t organise a p*** up in a brewery let alone a fleet of trucks!

And, as for how long he’ll last, I hope for the companies sake, not very long!!

Kindest regards
CG

Nothing changes it would seem in the “Logistics” industry “CG”,during my time as an M.D. in the WRM Group I was the only the director with an HGV licence, but it was priceless listening to the “BS” around the Boardroom table,to hear some of them spout about “vehicle performance” etc, especially those Scots ■■■■■■■ from A.M.Transport,if you didn’t know it was all B.S. you would think they all had amassed many hours “behind the wheel”.Anyhow if I recall,I could be wrong, but Tink was a joiner or summat in the building industry wasn’t he :frowning: ,you’ll know Marra knowing everything there is to know about the "fast eddie"gang, you Saddo  Cheers Bewick.

Hello,found these old ■■■■■■■■■

Cheers Bubbs.

CROPPERS ,BIG HAROLDS TRUCK. :unamused:

I think when that shot was taken of the James Cropper 32/4 it was brand new in June '68 and their first of the new Steel cabs,it was driven from new by Colin Veevers,at that time “Big H” was driving a Dodge 4 wheeler for G.W.Taylor a local Kendal haulier.Cheers Bewick.

GREAT STUFF, marra

Following on from G.B.Burrow & Son`s retired DAF , is this more recent addition to the fleet.
The IVECO Eurocargo was photographed at their premises recently.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

To avoid upsetting the " Old Time Purists " on this thread , heres a step back in time for you. Even the JM` is an original Westmorland reg. no.

The Ford van is photographed at Peter Bibbys Open Day , held at the Ingleton coach companys premises last Saturday.
A special Thank You must go to Peter and his staff for organising such a splendid gathering of anything with wheels underneath .

Craghills were well-known in Kendal for car sales and motoring supplies.
This Ford van was used for their parts delivery service , which included Exide batteries.
Can anyone remember if the striding Exide man had a name ?

Come on, Dennis,…youll be able to expand the Craghill s family business history , please.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Quiet right Bewick, Andrew Tinkler started off as a joiner and his first big job was a care home in Appleby

But, lets get things straight, I’m certainly not a saddo!

Now look 'ere Marra anybody that can stand outside one of “fast eddies” depots “spotting” their motors in all weathers,or better still, stand on the side of the road in Waverton in the ■■■■■■■ rain for hours just to spot the odd Silloth based bulker or maybe a Skip motor or if you are lucky Milkman Tom’s tanker  ,must really be a “dyed in the wool” Super saddo,so if the “ESL baseball cap” fits you just have to wear it my Son !! :frowning: Cheers Bewick.

Whilst we are all waiting for “nelly1972” to ( start :unamused: :unamused: ) to display his pre-1986 photographs ,…heres one from Brough-based Ben Sayers fleet.
Established in 1936 , the business still operates a very clean and tidy fleet of tippers.

Yes ,…I know its not a true photograph , but a cab roof panel vinyl wrap. This recessed panel on the Volvo Globetrotter cab roof serves as an idealpicture frame` to show
4 E.R.Fs., which were on contract to Shap Granite , whose quarry was alongside the A 6 , just south of Shap village.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

That’ll be Shap Blue won’t it CWM, now the Cemex quarry?

I think so , “Dew” , but someonell soon put us right ! There was more than one quarry . Both pinkandblue stone was extracted , but on different sides of the A 6. Summat about " geological fault" of the mother Earths crust . :unamused:

And then again “dew” it was probably the Pink quarry further south and this was the most famous granite, hard as iron. But I’ll tell you a little tale, for quite a number of years the 8 wheeler Foden tipper that ran between the pink quarry and the plant was driven by the Landlord of the Greyhound pub on the south side of Shap village,he was called Derek ?.So when the Foden came down to Milnthorpe for annual MOT it always came with about 10 or 12 ton of Blue chippings which after test Derek tipped in our depot  One time, when I’d been in the Greyhound having a pint or three with Daryl Lee and John Greenhow(who drove a big Dumper for British Steel at Shap Fell Quarrie at the time) I said to Derek, how about some Pink when you come down next time (cheeky bugger eh!) I want some for our car park and a few paths in our garden eh!.Sure enough, next time,a load of Pink was tipped in the depot,so if you cared to do some exporatory digs in the old depot you would be sure to find some Shap Granite, guaranteed :sunglasses: Great lads those Shap fellas, but they can “sup” some stuff,or could in those far off days.I won’t say anymore, but I’ve come down Shap fell in the early hours and thought I was on a six lane highway driving into LA :open_mouth: :unamused:  Cheers Dennis.

Dennis ;- it IS L A .
That`s the postcode for Kendal. :sunglasses: :unamused:   :grimacing:

O.K.,…I`ll get me coat… :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers , Anon 1.

I came over Shap on Monday on my way back from the Lake District, It brought back a lot of mems might I say, Cruising effortlessly in the Jag, Quite different from the old days when I had to get into crawler gear with the old 5 Potter Gardner with a drag on its tail, & Seeing the old gaol birds from Preston Prison Knapping stones which are still there on the right heading north to stop batter slide I was told in those long good old days, Its like a motorway know compared to the era Im refering to, Perhaps some of you oldies like myself can remember those days, Regards Larry.

Interesting about Shap Pink, so that’s the left hand side if coming from Kendal? Didn’t realise it used to be two seperate quarries.

Edit as I’ve just turned my brain on Pink was the one further towards the summit?
