No, you just came across as being an arse. Which I guess goes with the old saying, if the cap fits…

I’m tempted now just to post as many modern pics as I can find just to see it wind the old knobs like yourself up fully.

Where’s VOSA :open_mouth: Anon 1.

On an earlier page I showed a photograph of a Scania & drawbar loaded with straw parked under the M 6 motorway at
Canal Garage , Crooklands. This Spanish Dodge was owned from new by the same family, - G.W. Taylor, Underbarrow , Kendal.

The photo was used by Dodge/Chrysler for early publicity purposes of this (then) powerful import around 1973/4.

Aye CWM,I believe Geoff was always a “soft touch” for Douthwaites,V6 ■■■■■■■ Dodge and the abortion that was the Spanish Dodge :unamused: Cheers Dennis.

Hi Dennis ,
I know that there were problems with the Spanish Dodges , but what was the problem with Geofs Dodge fitted with the V6 ■■■■■■■ ? I cant remember that wagon.

After the heckling from “nelly1972” , Ive shown at least half-a-dozen older type photographs on here. However ,....we still await his re-appearance , and his treasured contributions. :unamused: :unamused: :exclamation: So,......to awaken him ,....Heres a modern artic.

Hiya CWM,the 6 wheeler Dodge flat that Geoff Taylor ran was a D reg with York trailing axle, the first driver was Lester Beck RIP ( a native of Tebay),the second driver on this Dodge was Arthur “Noisey” Wilson then finally John Holmes (Staveley) which was around the time 68/69 I started running up and down to London, often with both Taylors lads,John on the 6 wheeler and “Big” Harold Troughton on the 4 wheeler Dodge( Perkins 6.354).We all used to stay at the same digs,Three Sisters ( aka"six ■■■■") at Markyate. For some reason, without going into the economics,Taylors always ran back empty after delivering Glaxo powder to Greenford, whereas I was always loaded to the "gunwales"on my return. The Glaxo traffic had formerly been hauled by BR so the rate can’t have been that “clever”,but anyhow thats how it was .Geoff replaced this 6 wheeler with a new ERF 180 LXB unit and trailer (“H” reg IIRC) and this was driven by John Holmes when new. Both John and his brother Eddie worked for Bewick Transport in the mid/late 70’s.Getting back to the V6 Dodge,I believe it was nothing but trouble and Geoff would have been relieved to see the back of it according to what tales his drivers used to tell, but how Douthwaites managed to “stuff” one of those Berrios Dodges into him after he had been running a 6LXB ERF I’ll never know, but it was nowt to do with me anyhow  Cheers Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
Thanks for the detailed reply. I can now remember the troublesome 6 wheeler Dodge, but it was never used on the livestock side of Geofs business, therefore I didnt see it often.

Those two named characters , - Arthur & John. :unamused: :unamused:    Some blokes , they were !! John lived in
Oxenholme , and ( “the ferryman”) Arthur, lived halfway down The Scar I think ? I cant place the other two , but Holmes` was a clan name in Staveley ! :unamused:  Quite a while since I last saw either of them.

Aye , that Woodward salesman at Douthwaites used many ways to sell the Commer/Dodge/Karrier range , and I can
speak from my own experiences , - and some can`t be mentioned on here ! :unamused:  :exclamation:

The E.R.F. that Geof bought , - did he buy a second unit, or am I getting mixed up with R.H. (Richard) Holmes ?

Eeehh, nostalga ! The stuff that sticks in the memory cells ! :unamused:

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

I’ve known Arthur since I was about 12  And on reflection,he even worked for us for a time in the 70’s,loading trailers in the Mill at Beetham bit of an “in between” job for him at the time !.IIRC Geoff got a new 110 Scania after the ERF but my memory is a bit hazy of that time, and we never came into contact with Taylors anyway, although we did push a load of pulp back into one of their curtainsiders on the road outside Libby’s that the idiot driver (someone we had fired a few months earlier)had “shot”,I think it was on it’s way to Barrow and the Clown,I believe,“shot” it again going around Levens Bridge but we never got any thanks off Geoff for helping out with our forklift :frowning: at least we got the idiot through Milnthorpe lights without any mishap :open_mouth: Cheers Dennis.

Are you baiting me ■■■■■■■■ Gill for a response to your continued posting of modern trucks on an ‘old time lorries’ forum… I do find the constant posting of modern vehicles is letting the ■■■■■■■■ thread down… Being 41 years old i am more interested in the trucks i saw growing up than i am of the trucks on the road now… if i want to be a spotter to look at modern trucks/fleets etc i’ll have a look on flickr, where i believe more people wil like to see your modern truck pics…

Sorry for taking so long to respond,

Wheres thi piccies , then, eh, “nelly1972” ? :unamused:

We all like to see photo’s of older lorries, but there are not that many photo’s of older lorries around. I have posted a few hundred photo’s of older lorries on TNUK. But I have posted several thousand photo’s of modern lorries on TNUK because that’s about all I can get. ■■■■■■■■ Gill like many others posts some good stuff on this thread and several much older than yourself ex drivers enjoy looking at them.
Cheers Dave aged 65+.

When you get to be an old knob  being an arse is expected of you !! So I’m so happy I didn’t disappoint you :sunglasses:
Anyway ,can I claim “old knob” status at 55, (and 30 in my head  ) or not, I’m sure the opinionated dew :unamused: will put me right.

Just got a shocker today, I went to see an old mate of mine, Ian Strick, to see if he had any photos of Trevor Brown’s of Silloth from the 70s.
Ian took me out on my first day as a driver there in 1978 to show me the ropes, and we lost touch a few years ago. I learned from his wife that Ian had died a year or so ago he was in his late 70s, did anybody on here know him? he worked for Markley in later years, and had a brother that worked at Fearons/Irvings. A genuine nice bloke that would help you any way he could, RIP mate.

Sorry for taking so long to respond,

Hello nelly1972

Let’s get a few things straight here marra

  1. I (another others who post modern truck photos) are not posting them all the time and it certainly does not let this thread down

  2. I have no problem with you not been interested in looking at modern trucks but let’s just remember here marra that others DO!!

I have already suggested that you simply scroll past them so why not do that??

  1. No, I wasn’t “baiting” you for a response to mine (and others) “continued posting of modern trucks”.

  2. WHY just blame me for the posting of modern truck photos■■?

I am certainly not the only one and I certainly will not be the last (Thank God)

Does the fact that other’s on this thread post modern truck photos not suggest something to you■■?

And, to finish off, I will repeat to you something I asked you earlier:

What is wrong with a thread that looks at both Modern & Classic Truck photos■■?

Kindest regards
