I certainly wouldn’t want to go back to driving trucks (or anything else) without it.
Its a fuel efficiency device which also aids driver comfort.
Won’t be long before intelligent CC is more widely fitted, as is already available on Mercedes. (along with lane drift warning).
Anybody driven one so fitted?
I’d politely suggest that those who think it should be banned have not been shown where, when & how to correctly use this most useful of tools.
I also think ALL vehicles should be fitted with settable maximum speed limiters as again Mercs are & I believe also DAF.
Very useful when in heavy traffic and, for example, 30mph limits, so you don’t need to keep looking at the speedo.
i started this thread and couldnt remember how to do a poll so coffeeholic done it for me all i wanted was peoples opions should it be banned not ban it but the input and getting you all talking think its done its job
shuttlespanker:
Cruise Control should be banned for life, especially for wearing that purple hoodie at Truckfest, in the pose caught on camera by Gogzy, it made him look sooooooo gay
thanks rob for bringing that photo up trying to forget about it to spare clare and further embarrasment i did that silly pose because i didnt actually think gogzy was taking the photo
I voted no to banning because although I don’t like the way Cruise Control seems to “hunt” (by that I mean constantly accelerating then cutting the fuel) with certain vehicles/conditions, or power up climbs when I would prefer to be economical and maintain accelerator pedal position if poss, the pros outweigh the cons IMO. If CC was a significant factor in crashes, particularly those involving ploughing into stationary traffic, then it would surely soon be banned, so in general it can’t be a safety issue. The main problem with it AFAIK is when it suddenly kicks back in when slowing after going downhill or otherwise increasing speed above the set CC speed which in rare instances can be a surprise. As an aid to fatigue relief in the right lower leg it can only be a safety benefit IMO. As with starter motors, fuel-dispensing pumps, roadside tyre replacement etc. CC is an improvement which can make our lives easier but wasn’t always in existence, and after all it doesn’t have to be used. As long as its cost doesn’t impact detrimentally on another area, e.g. a choice of CC or A/C, viva CC! (and sat navs).
