Am I going mad or does cruise control just not work properly on these? I’m sure I can’t be the only person to get one of these for the first time and struggled to figure out why it won’t work? I did eventually find the rocker switch to adjust the speed hidden away on the back of the steering wheel but despite my setting 90kmh and holding in S1 button til it beeped to set it (and lights up 90 in the box on the display) it doesn’t seem to maintain the speed for very long. Eg. I was running empty on the M62 over the tops and it would happily maintain 90kmh when driving it on the pedal but with CC engaged as soon as it hit the slightest incline the speed would drop down to 89 then 5 seconds later to 88 then 5 seconds later to 87, yet if I planted my foot on the pedal it would instantly accelerate back up to 90. I just don’t get it? I’m wondering if these now have that stupid adaptive CC fitted which you can’t override? For reference there was nothing in front of me to cause it to adjust itself and the hill was a long drag which I was nowhere near the top of so there was no reason for the speed to be easing off. What am I doing wrong?
I do quite like the newer Renault tractor units as they’re just not like anything else with regards placement of the various controls and buttons and I like the challenge of working it all out. I did spend far too much time feeling around the steering column cover for the steering wheel adjuster without success, until some time later I spotted the huge rocker switch glaring back at me at the side of the dash display. And hands up who has found out where the headlight aim adjuster is on the new shape ones? I bet not many drivers have found that.
I have one of these, until the new DAFs arrive
Just set the cruise speed with the rocker under the steering wheel. I believe that the S settings are for economy running, I.e. it will allow the truck to slow down when going uphill, rather than pumping fuel through the exhaust in an attempt to save 2seconds on a journey by maintaining speed.
Conor:
Tried reading the user manual? And no I’m not taking the mick - you really need to nowadays on new trucks.
You’d think so wouldn’t you. I read the manual when I had to take a demo back to Renault. It was nose into the wall, nobody in the yard knew how to get it in reverse and the book had no info about it We had to call Renault in the end
When it drops speed does it have the E+ on the dash , and the rev counter drop to 500 rpm■■? it sounds like your’re running in economy modes 1 or 2… designed for optimum torque and fuel economy by using a “coast” mode…
You can override this by scrolling down the tabs on the left of the dash main screen, by using the wheel under the right side of the steering wheel…
5th one down (i think) … hold the scrolly wheel in until you have a choice of 3… scroll to 3, job sorted… no dropping of speed or revs on cc… however you will have the torque of something akin to a 385bhp engine… not much use when you’re heavy… pays ya money, takes ya choice…
@Donkey and Kate, thanks. I shall investigate further with your suggestions. Kate, the ecoroll thing is disabled in the ‘truck’ menu. I disabled it myself as it’s annoying having it drop into neutral when driving on local roads. I didn’t notice those other settings you mention - are we talking about the brand new shape one with the grey melted plastic front end?
On the dash there are 3 setting 1 full Eco with will let speed drop to 54 before cutting back in
Setting 2 is somewhere in the middle
Setting 3 the truck will maintain set speed all the time
That’s why a lot say the new trucks don’t pull its set on Eco
As I say scroll down the dash it’s 3 from the bottom go in to settings pick number 3 and away you go

Dude wut? It’s on the stick on the right of the wheel, flick it to drive then twist it to the R.

I`am with you on this one Radar 19 , its all too easy , on top of that I would embarrassed to admit that to anyone !!!.
Carl Usher: @Conor, I would do if there was one in it!

We are indeed…
Whichever Eco mode you choose will depend on whats your “thing” … Setting 3, which is basically point and shoot is not the place to be if fuel economy is of primary importance… Using that on a regular basis at top weight on the Welsh hills is only turning in around 7.5mpg… By using Eco mode setting number one that will improve by up to 2mpg and it does actually pull better on the hills… sort of a carthorse vs racehorse thing…
I only use the point and shoot mode because my bonus is partly based on “green band” usage, and not mpg… Because mode one drops off the green. and down to 500rpm, this is enough to knock my bonus off the top centile, and while it’s a better fuel economy, the company fuel saving isn’t coming out of my pocket
The best suggestion is to play with it. (ooh err) and see what works for you, bearing in mind all these modes only work when the cruise control is on.
I had this problem with a Renault I had to take to another depot and it drove me nuts for about 3 minutes and then I saw the ecomony mode Trucks are getting more and more functional these days
