Crossing the Alps - your advice please

Craig 111:
l,

Has anyone been across Montgenevre recently or know for a fact that it’s restricted?

took a coach over it about 3 years ago its a good pass with only about 3 moderate hairpins on it,in fact i used it to let a nervous driver pratice with a empty motor, cant tell you if there is any weight limit ,sorry

good luck, your giving me itchty feet

jon

That sounds brilliant, make sure you post some pics up here.
Does mentioning the charity or details contravene trucknet rules?

If not lets see what we can do for you.

The F88 and Scania 140 / 141 were a regular site on the vent so that would be good apart from the distance.

I think the French customs man who took 10ff not to stamp permits has gone now,

I havent helped with your question because I havent a clue about Montgenevre,
I knew there was a 7.5 limit on the Cenis

Have you tried e-mailing the people on This site?
As they are responsible for some of the autoroutes, they may be interested in having some involvement in your trip (publicity etc) and would probably help with routes, maybe sorting out extra-ordinary passage of Frejus Tunnel. There are several Autoroute Societies on your route, any one of which may help. They might all be interested, you never know. Naturally, I would think, they would want you to do at least part of your journey on their Autoroute.

Just a suggestion

What we had planned was a first night stop at Habay, then on to BP Macon next day, and then through the Alps via Montcenisio to Susa. Now we discover that our route across the Alps is a no go thanks to a weight limit.
Craig

I don’t know what sort of load you are carrying, but the weight limit on this route is 19 tons (last year) and is a physical weight limit so if you are running light you may still be able to use that route

Thanks for all your suggestions - after a bit of head scratching it looks like Venti is going to be the only real way through (26t weight limit on Montgenevre).
10 of the trucks in question will be at Truckfest this w/e and they’ll be shipping out via Dover on Tuesday afternoon which should prove a bit of a nostalgic sight. Tuesday night Habay; Weds, Macon; Thursday, somewhere near Venti; Weekended at Carisio and then back up to Rotterdam via Geiselwind (there on Tuesday night). They’ll be running the nationals as much as possible, and the whole lot will appear in a forthcoming issue of T&D.
Cheers again,
Craig
