what’s the rules on crossing borders with airguns.
it is quite relaxing to know you are tooled up. you can sleep more easily, just like taking a spoon full of night nurse.
it appears to be legal to carry an airgun in the uk, but what do the uk border force people make of it?
i reckon they will make up their own set of rules, just like vosa do.
Depends where and when you buy it, airguns now have to be visible as such, If you look on websites now they all are clear plastics and of bright colours (pink and purple etc) to make it clear to someone you’re pointing it at that its not a “real” gun. I think this has been the case for the past 2 years or so.
As such you’re no longer allowed to buy real looking ones from abroad to be brought into the UK.
Depends what kind it was I suppose.
Alex
Depends if an air gun is classed as a firearm or not, you can’t bring firearms into the UK so even if you got it out bringing it back would be an issue. If they aren’t classed as firearms then it would depend on how powerful the gun is, high powered air guns are on the illegal to import list.

Not wishing to rock the boat here, but in my view this is akin to misguided teenagers who carry knives “for protection”, which often ends miserably for the person who is “tooled up”. Carrying weapons of any sort is just plain stupid, dangerous and more often than not illegal.
a teenager carrying a knife or any other weapon in public for his own protection is a completely different thing than a truck driver sleeping in his own cab, knowing that there are some nutters who would be quite happy to kill him to steal his truck and load.
teenagers carry knives for status, although they say it is for protection.
Can’t carry any airgun this side of the water a big no no
You cant be in possession of any weapon in a public place, unless you have a valid reason to do so.
So if plod searched your truck & found your airgun, unless you could say “I’m going to a local shooting competition” or something you going to nicked for possession of an offensive weapon.
You’d be really dumb to have one when crossing borders. There sensitive areas at the best of times, & if you were caught you might end up looking down the barrel of an MP5. No fun if a foreign plod was holding it & didnt understand your “Dont shoot, I didnt mean it guv”
Water pistol with pi55 in it should work
An airgun for protection?!! You havin a laugh? You may as well carry a catapult.
What to you need an Airgun for?
You are allowed to shoot rats, so just chuck a rat in yer cab and threaten it.

Just look them up then a lot of Air Rifles these days are powerful enough to require a Fire Arms Certificate.
This is what i have but i would never carry it in the cab. A Nice BSA R10.
The best defenc in the cab i have found is the ICE AXE these work bloody good at dissuading folks and a aerosol and lighter.

Oh i’ve seen them. And them nice high powered gas guns, doesn’t change the size of a .22 pellet though !! And nor would i take my chances trying to aim it with some nutter running at me

Couldn’t argue with ya there, just stay on the right end of it
I use one of these for those pesky rats that refuse to get out of the back of my trailer. 24 inches long with a sharp point at one end. It also comes in very handy for actually using it on the trailer.

This is used for a bit of target shooting and vermin control. The .22 version i have will take the head of a rat at 60 meters. 10 shot magazine bolt action good for shooting ■■■■■’s too (or so i am told )
Ice axes do make a superb deterrent for in the cab and are bloody usefull for those metal seals that refuse to be cut with bolt cutters.
Be better sticking to some normal day to day item which can be turned into a weapon which you could grab and use in self defence, most air rifles powerfull enough to do damage usually are modded used to get upgraded springs, gas stuts etc… in places like the Barras but would make it illegal and these days espec north of the border they take a really dim view of air rifles and throw the book at you.
Even if it were a legal weapon and you shot someone good chance would get done for it, why did you have a loaded weapon in the cab, i aint 100% sure about the laws and prob differ between England and Scotland but up here transporting an air rifle around in a car or the likes think it needs to be in a cover, not just lieing around.
A Spray tin of mosquito killer is a great way of ensureing you do not have problems with
irritating uninvited guests especially if you get it from abroad where they use stronger mixtures
of chemicals,

Mind that wee boy that got killed in craigend? some ned (chav for you english lot lol) used him for target practice. I think the parents are campaigning for them to be illegal
Think the SNP want to ban them but i dont think they can, think its a matter for Westminster.
My mate in Motherwell used to go out with his air rifle up the calder, kept it in a bag till he was out in the country but even still as soon as your spotted with an air rifle or any weapon its policy for the police helicopter to be sent out.
Nearly evertime he went out with his air rifle police helicopter would appear and police would appear, who know him and know he isnt doing anything wrong but have to come out anyways.
