Only relevant convictions can be taken into account but not strong suspicions of unacceptable behaviour.
The point is that until an individual has actually been convicted they are deemed safe to be with the vulnerable groups, this is why these tragedies occur.

But that’s not the case - anyone applying for a job working with vulnerable groups (e.g. children or vulnerable adults) may be subject to an Enhanced DBS check (which includes information other than convictions held by police - exactly which information will be dictated by the nature of the job being applied for) and in some cases an even more “enhanced” check which includes lists of people dismissed (or who were going to be dismissed but resigned first) for harming an adult or child. The information that puts people on these lists comes from the (ex-)employer, not from the police/courts.
I had to have one in a former job to allow me to do a couple of days work in a high security jail, frankland jail in Durham, I never got to see the results of it but assumed it was fine as they let me in.
On the other hand some of the places I’ve been sent to work I should be asking them if they have one, dodgy buggers.

Do you think you should have to have a CRB Check (crimnal record check) to drive a lorry - van would you have one or not if not why not and also how would you say no if you did not want one. What sort of goods would you think you would be carrying for this to be done or type of work. My views are these CRBs are for teachers and people looking after children and people hospital E.T.C . What do you think?
i collect waste chemicals etc from school laboratorys which means i can be moving around a school for the best part of a day sometimes collecting together my load before putting it on the truck do you think i need a crb check ?. what of those drivers for TNT /office depot etc who drive 7.5t with bulk pallets etc to schools should they have the same ?

i suppose should all companies do CRBs the thing is when a CRB is asked for we think about the care industry and children teachers e.t.c not lorry drivers i dont think lorry drivers should be having CRBs but that is only my view and others mite feel different 
I don’t think the fact that your deliveries/collections have you going into schools etc makes a blind bit of difference - the situation is pretty much the same as making deliveries to any street or location where kids are around (i.e. just about everywhere). There is a huge difference between working where there are kids and actually working with the kids.
