Thought I would share my adventure of last night.
Very new class 1 driver, only my 4th shift on a unit last night.
My boss sent me to Edinburgh and if you don’t already know they are burning loads of money building some tram thing, personally I think it’s just a job club
Anyway, they have closed loads of roads and restricted left and right turn angles by building barriers just to give us drivers a challenge , and what a bloody challenge. Was lost for ages, up and down cobble roads and all sorts. All and all I got out of Edinburgh and back to the yard without hitting cyclist, pedestrians , traffic lights , bollards or any moving objects
Got back to customers yard and they were even adamant I reveresed on to a loading bay. Guy standing on bay waiting me to reverse on, what a surprise he got when I reveresed on to a bay perfectly. Unfortunately it was not the one he or I intended to land on
Boss has me back in yard tomorrow to practice reversing .
If any of you get the opportunity to drive c+e in Edinburgh, expect a dose of squeaky bum but one load of blinking experience with every situation you could imagine.
I have been very fortunate that the guy I had done some class 2 driving for was willing to give me a chance when it came up for class 1 . For all you new c+e like me, keeP the faith, prove you can do your class 2 and the opportunity will come.
