I know this will annoy a lot of people but I feel that this could have easily been avoided by the trucker. At first he’s in the right lane, the cars shoot off into the distance and he moves over left…but both of the cars start slowing down ages before the junction, but the truck doesn’t slow down and therefore the gap closes…and that is very clear to see. Suddenly the other car darts off, the blue one stops and the truck shunts him…but if the truck driver would have started slowing down at the same time the cars started slowing down, there wouldn’t have been an accident. This may well have been a genuine operation, but in my eyes it was so easy to avoid and it only worked because the driver of the truck didn’t slow down as soon as he could of.
TTX boy:
if the truck driver had kept a good distance from the car in front he would have been able to avoid this accident.
remember…not only do you need breaking distance but also thinking distance.
I had this conversation with my aunty a few weeks ago who was caught up in an 8 car pile up on the M6. My aunty and her friends were uninjured but the first car occupants were trapped and had to be cut free. What a lot of people don’t account for is other vehicles hitting other vehicles in front of them. A car hitting another car will stop much faster than any brakes could ever stop them. This is how multiple pileups happen.
scam or not. the truck driver could have easily avoided it.
this happens several times a day to me, but i’ve not rear ended anyone.
If that driver worked for me, I wouldn’t have blamed him for the accident even if it was real. It was marginal that he didn’t stop in time & as has been pointed out it was a deliberate insurance scam by the two cars involved. If that had been a real situation, the Merc wouldn’t have come to a dead stop.
I would say incidents of blatant scamming like this are still quite rare but as an operator it does make me want to reach for the chq book to order some road hawk cameras.
On a high horse moment, fellow drivers a far too quick to judge another man’s skills as lacking. Those of you who say you’d have stopped in time as you’d have been further back or jinked in to lane 2 as you would have know if it was clear, it would be interesting to know if that really would be the case…
If you always kept the 2 second rule or whatever it is at 44-tonne, you’d get about ten mile down the road in a 15.

You could be right, although in 35 years of legalised driving I have never rear-ended a car stopped or slowing. I am sure many others have done the same. I have no special skills, just a fair sense of self preservation!
Just GOGGLED Roadhawk – About £200 for basic model. Anyone know if there is a monthly subscription charge for the GPS service or is this just a one off cost for the kit?
If it’s just £200 quid for this, I for one would be tempted to buy one. One accident would put that much on your annual insurance premium!!!
Also is it self contained, I.E. could I have it in my car on the way to work and then put it in my wagon for the working day and then put it back in the car for the journey home■■?
At the moment i am trialing my own " roadhawk " video system . I have captured some interesting video already .Basically i have a small cam-corder with a 16gb SD card installed on a proper winscreen mount . It gives me 56 hrs of recording on the lowest resolution.
They are , in my opinion a great idea and perhaps one day i will get £250 from YBF for my effort !!

We moved a bloke last week that dealt with crash scenes for various insurance companies and the courts and he was explaining what his job was and one of the most popular ways of doing this is to have a switch that turns off the brake lights when you press the peddle causing someone to go straight into the back of them.
The amount of files he had in boxes that were bloody heavy was unreal, the worst thing is every one pays for these scams.
another alternative perhaps ■■

The Apprentice or Dragons Den could be of use
We’ve been warned this week about scams with Londn and Luton areas being highlighted plus A414. One piece of advice is to note the number of occupants in the vehicle at the time as later on it will turn out to have been a car load of Asian gentlemen making personal injury claims. The undamaged decoy will normally disappear from the scene.

He probably needs a straight forward Scotsman talking him out of it, and then Duncan Bannatyne could have a word…
Harry Monk:
Truck driver was driving too fast and too close.

Interestingly, from the above video, it seems only one brake light was working on the Merc.

I’ve just been watching the news, a large and heavily-armed gang of Muslim extremists have been driving around Luton all day killing every white person they come across.
Police fear the death toll may be as high as two.
I’ve got two white friends in Luton. You mean they’re dead??!!

The original clip on here has been around for a while. The drivers of the cars were, as far as I know, arrested. the police did a dawn raid and arrested the merc driver from his home. I will try to find the link…
