Yeh, and you don’t start work until you’re 65.

Why are you people not all out on strike ? In 1994 Tesco drivers were on 12 quid an hour, in 1997 I was getting 13 quid an hour.…I was on £12 per hour in 1998 working out of Dartford, but as for striking

offer some of them a shiny new Volvo or Scania and they will take a wage cut, I was sat waiting for a truck in Bradford round about 1990 so I could do a night trunk, and a brand new tractor trailer the boss had just bought was parked in the yard, painted Maroon and Gold looked very nice it did too, he was telling me he was taking it to a show at the weekend and asked if I wanted to go (I laughed gently, thanked him, but told him I would rather have red hot needles poked in my eyes and eat my own feet than spend what little spare time I had polishing and looking at bloody trucks), when a head poked through the little widow they have in offices and this shaven potato with piggy little eyes said, " whatever your paying the driver of that truck I will do his job for half the money

" I never forgot that, and while (I hope) most wont go to that extreme, a new truck does buy a lot off…by the way potato head was told to go away and never show his ugly face again.
Another lifetime ago, i happened to drive a 2800 Daf on a decent little job, would be early 80’s anyway cos my lorry was about 2 years old on a W plate.
We had the company idiot, i’d worked with him before and he’d been an idiot then, funnily enough his dad had an allotment at the back of my house and i met him again about 20 years later, still an idiot…anyway, he had a Daf2300 on the same type of job.
My boss comes up to me one day, appears this twerp has said if he gets a 2800 he would be prepared to take a £25 a week pay cut, which was a fair bit of wedge back then, no he didn’t take him up on his cut price offer.
Honest to God, they walk among us

I did work for Stobarts a while back Andrew, but I’ve had 33 jobs since then
If they brought out an EB action man figure I couldn’t afford the outfits for it…

There seems to be a massive divide around the country where wages are concerned, we need 26 drivers ay my place in Avonmouth where 60 paid hours a week would gross you over £38,000.Nobody ever turns up for an interview.
Does your firm employ newly qualified drivers? I would definitely turn up for an interview At least know what you are missing out on if you do miss out!

I think in April 2018 the living wage is going to be around £8 ph, so we are getting nearer and nearer to a significant part of this industry becoming a minimum wage job

Living in a tin box on POA and kebabs doing 80 hrs a week, for many drivers it already is, and has been for many years.
Is there a part of this forum that has job offers ?

.
There is, but company’s don’t like advertising there because, if it doesn’t pay £1000 a week, 10hr days, nights out at £26.45 plus £6.00 meal allowance, parking paid, and two minutes walk from there house, it will get slagged off, and they were earning more in 1980, tramping around Europe, North Africa, and the middle east, but now they’ve all retired, after freckking the industry up, and sit on here all day, ■■■■■■■■ at others who take a job, to feed and cloth there family.

I notice a lot of that type of thing and personal insults… I am trying to steer clear of that kind of thing! Negativity will get you nowhere IME.
I am surprised that the low paid jobs are not advertised. There are plenty of cross posts about them, and TBH when a new driver comes onto the scene they (like my self) have lower expectations than time served drivers.
