Cracked Weld

So the weld on the unit air tank has a slight crack the tank is fine so i have used a strap to make sure it dosent get worse will this be ok till i can get in and get a more permanent repair its all secure and wont drop off

As long as you’ve defected it.

HulIo. Was a welder once. Long time ago right enough. Hard to say without seeing it. Is it a weld on the tank itself or the mounting bracket holding it on to chassis? If it’s flexing or vibrating it’ll only get worse so strapping it was the best thing to do but keep an eye on it as they can go without warning. If in doubt play safe an get it looked at. Keep yourself right.

The air tank is a “pressure vessel”, you know - like the boiler of a steam locomotive, a potential bomb. That’s why the system has a safety valve installed.

And working at about the same pressure too.
I would say our OP is describing the brackets that hold it on. If the vessle seams were cracked it would undoubtably be making a hissing noise which no amount of rachet straps would stop.

From what the OP has said it seems most likely that it’s one of the welds that holds the brackets onto the tank that’s cracked in which case as long as the tank can be secured to minimise any vibrations it should be fine until it can be fixed, in the unlikely event that it’s a seem weld that forms part of the actual tank that’s cracked it needs fixing NOW.

Its the bracket not the tank and it will be sorted tomorrow cheers

I know it is not a cracked weld, but did defect it
