and spent some time in prison i always believed him when he told me he
did not know the drugs were in his trailer, and when he was released from prison he had lost his truck, wife, and all he had and was working for a guy renovating houses where he caught a desease from rats urine and died.
:frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

This accident happened right in front of me in 1996 on the A7 running
down to Macon when i was on my last tour of duty on Mckellars i was
running down to spain with Hazardous the car hit the Rennie Hogg
trailer in the rear doing well over 100mph and burst into flames myself
and other drivers did what we could to contain the fire so the people inside had half a chance to get out and all survived to my knowledge, i learnt later the guy had tried to commit suicide and take his wife and two children with him.
the joke was that i had used both my fire extinguishers at the scene of
the accident and when i got to the spanish border at La Junqeura the french
did me 2000 Francs for having empty ones i tried to explain but gave up
in the end and paid up. “VIVE LA FRANCE HUH” :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:

Brilliant snaps & post. Nice to see that Sgt.Major Whitbread hasn’t changed much over the years. You know he is living in Harwich( Sorry ; Dovercourt ) now ,I suppose.

Bob, the bloke with the glasses is Ray Larcombe, he was mates with Ronnie Hunt for a while anyway! I haven’t seen him for a year or so, last time I spoke to him he had to come off the road due to poor health, all those years of one hits & 60 B&H a day have caught up with him.

Nice to see Jimmy Turbo before his Pie addiction took hold, I was on PJL with him in the mid 90s, you’re right he is a character.

Good photos mate, bring back many happy memories.

some good memories there bob, when i find my photos ill post em up, 2 moves in as many years and ive still got boxes unpacked in the loft. as the man said, keep them coming.

Good pics, the unitruc driver, was he called Barney, used to see him regular clearing custom’s in Turbigo.
It was good to see RH pulling their own trailers with their own units unlike now.
I think the driver was Richard Bishton, no longer with RH.

The Unitruc driver is Barry Cleaver (the mayor of canvey) he is retired
now, he worked for Alberti Santi in Italy after Unitruc and was and
still is a very respected driver amongst all who know him he did
a lot of Turkey and middle east and actually spent time in prison
in Istanbul in Turkey in the early seventies the same nick as the film
Midnight Express was based on i have seen the photos him and a Dutch
driver smuggled out of the prison ■■■■■■■■■ stuff believe me. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Some nice old pictures there and good tales.

Keep them coming, especially if you have any of us lads from oop north

I was in a pub with a driver the other night. His father owned Central Freight from Nottingham. He was amazed that I remembered them :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice pics, good to see. Lenny gave me pictures of their F16 (Service Garage)when they got it as a tractor, before it was converted into a wrecker, nice to see some more, I have a blurry snap of their Scania too somewhere. Good to see the Unitruc pics too, will PM you soon when I have a bit more time regarding them, will explain in PM! Jimmy, now I recognise him, I recognised him in your other thread but never got rund to replying, did he work for Paul Luckett out of Truckworld? I am sure i have seen him there when I was on Felgates. One of our blokes left Ernie to go on with Paul so he could do Italy, and I am sure Jimmy was giving him help over a route one day when I saw him in the yard, got a feeling he used to drive one of the Globetrotters?

some great photos on there - i remember getting “stuck” at salvat’s depot in barcelona with ginger harry, johnny patterson and a few others around 1989 due to a customs strike, great canteen and a couple of San Miguel vending machines
