Hi I’m about to start learning. I have a C1 entitlement from when I passed my test 1992, once I’ve passed C do I have to do 35 hrs prior to driving for hire or reward or can I do it over the next 5 years?
Also can I do cpc online as I work fulltime at the moment so cannot spare week days?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum Spaceman,
And the answers are:
-
CPC card must be held before hire and reward
-
CPC is classroom or practical. No online i’m afraid.
Most of the questions you have currently are answered here by ROG: LGV TRAINING TIPS [Reworked 01/02/2022] (Read only) - NEW AND WANNABE DRIVERS (INTERACTIVE) - Trucknet UK
Enjoy!
Thanks Evil, looking forward to it! I drove 7.5s but not since cpc came in! So looking forward to something proper sized!

If you’ve read a bit of ROG’s training tips, you have probably worked out that you have a choice of CPC’s because you passed your car test before 1997.
So you could do the “Mod’s” that new car passes have to do, or you can do the “Periodic”.
Both cost about the same, but the Mod’s are technically failable. (Not a real word! )
So I would choose the periodic, which are day classes of 7 hours covering different topics, and you can choose which you do.
You also have the option of building CPC credits by doing an accredited course, like an ADR. (Dangerous goods)
This will cost a bit more, and for more info/overview, look here viewtopic.php?f=5&t=128053
Yes I know people, I’m plugging my ADR post again!!!
Hope that helps, and when you get into something “proper sized” brake early!

Firstly you cannot do the Driver CPC on-line, it would be nice if you could though
As far as your DCPC requirement is concerned, I assume you haven’t done any DCPC training in which case you can either do the 35 hours periodic training or you can do the initial DCPC modules 2 and 4.
Doing the initial DCPC is the cheapest option but there are two tests which you can fail and have to resit, the 35 hours DCPC periodic training is a matter of staying awake for five sessions of seven hours each, there’s no test to pass or fail.
The periodic training is likely to cost around £300 - £400 while the initial DCPC is likely to cost around the £200 to £250 mark.
Generally speaking it’s reasonable to say that whatever you decide to do you cannot drive HGVs commercially until you have a driver qualification card.

Harden that it sounds, and I only did one day on DigiTacho’s!
Are you sure the initial as that much cheaper tachograph? I thought they were similar becaue you needed to pay/hire a vehicle for the mod2 & 4.
(However, as i didn’t do those, I’m going on what I’ve been told, possibly misinformation!)
From memory mod 2 is about £28, mod 4 is the one you need a vehicle for and will cost about £58 I think plus the trainers fees for the vehicle and an hour or two training.

to be honest I fell asleep often and long enough during those classroom sessions and the trainers could not care less if you do
there were people there who did the ‘same topic’ 2 or 3 times as well, so DSA does not care what you learn/not learn so long that the hours are ‘signed off’, what a great excuse for them to make money this CPC is… if they wanted us drivers to ‘really’ be ‘professionally updated’ then they’d make it compulsory not to attend the same topic more than once in your 35 hours periodic…

Fair enough, I must admit that it isn’t something I’ve paid an awful lot of attention to, for obvious reasons…
I stand corrected!
- Mod 2 £24.
- Mod 4 £55

Driver CPC fees:
- Mod 2 £24.
- Mod 4 £55
Now we need some trainers to give us the vehicle cost!
Not much difference in cost doing initial or periodic according to various other posts where this has been asked
I think from a time point of view and cost, I’m tempted to do the mod 2&4 route as 1&3 are covered by the tests, I assume 2 is a 7hr course and then it’s just mod 4?
If so do I have to then complete 35 hrs within 5 years of passing these? or does the 35hrs training have to begin in 5 yrs and 1 day?
Thanks

you have to have done the 35 hours ‘within 5 years’ as any DQC will ‘expire’ 5 years from when you did your CPC
Thanks nobodys just reread ROGS stickies and answered my own question! Cheers

Mod 2 is a computer based test, you get a total of 1½ hours to complete the test.
Mod 4 is a 30/40 minute practical demonstration test.
- Driver CPC Module 4

As you now appear to know to continue driving commercially you will need to do 35 hours periodic training within 5 years of passing mod 4.
Mod 4 I payed £285 for this was half a day in class room, then traveling to test centre afterwards to under go testing
